Jenny McCarthy is not a woman you want to anger, but it appears that a film critic has accomplished just that! The Love in the Wild host shared some choice words with movie critic Rex Reed after he accused Jenny’s cousin Melissa of being a “fat hippo.” How did Jenny respond to the criticism?
Jenny McCarthy may be well known as a Playboy model and the host of Love in the Wild, but she happens to have another famous person in her family — actress Melissa McCarthy! You may remember Melissa as one of the main characters in the hit comedy Bridesmaids. More recently, however, Melissa snagged a role in Identity Thief. It was in a review of this movie that Melissa was harshly criticized by the New York Observer’s Rex Reed. The critic accused Melissa of being a “”gimmick comedian who has devoted her short career to being obese and obnoxious with equal success.” He also referred to the actress as “cacophonous, tractor-sized Melissa McCarthy.”
Suffice to say, Melissa’s cousin and close friend Jenny wasn’t too happy about Rex Reed’s critique. Her response? “That’s obnoxious in itself. For anyone to attack like that, it’s just wrong and hurtful, and it doesn’t do anyone any good — not even Rex Reed, you know? She’s very, very talented and people know that, so… He can go to hell.”
Jenny McCarthy was certainly not the only person to lash out at Rex Reed. The critic responded to all the negative feedback in a recent radio interview, explaining, “My point was that I object to using health issues like obesity as comic talking points. She is basing her career on being obnoxious and being overweight. And I don’t think that’s funny. I have too many friends that have died of obesity-related illnesses, heart problems and diabetes, and I have actually lost friends to this … I don’t care how much she weighs. I don’t care how much Melissa McCarthy weighs. She wants to be fat? Mark, she’s crying all the way to the bank.”
What do you think of Rex Reed’s remarks? Accurate or uncalled for? Sound off in the comments section below!
