Last month, we learned that Mindy McCready’s boyfriend, David Wilson, 34, died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. And while the Celebrity Rehab With Dr. Drew alum has struggled with the loss, she was in the process of getting help to deal with the tragedy however; the enormity of Wilson’s passing proved too much for Mindy, 37, to bear and she too committed suicide. Keep reading for more details.
Following David’s death, Mindy fell into a deep depression and stayed in the bed for 3 weeks. Her father said she “sleeps all day, drinks all night, and is taking Rx drugs. Not bathing or even helping take care of her two children.” As a result, the two boys were removed from her care. “Mindy needs to get help,” a source told E! News. “We all care and love her and we want her to get the right help so she can move on. She is in a bad state right now, depressed and unhappy,”
The judge in the case wrote, “There is cause to find there is clear and convincing evidence that Respondent is in imminent danger of harm to herself or others, suicidal or gravely disabled,” and ordered her to enter a treatment facility for an evaluation. However, just one day later, she was released to undergo outpatient treatment instead.
Since then, her father, Tim McCready had been staying with her and when he left Sunday to return to Florida, “she was in good spirits and seemed to be fine,” a source said. However, sometime later in the day, deputies from the Cleburne County Sheriff’s department found Mindy’s body on the front porch of her Arkansas home after responding to reports of gunshots fired. According to CNN, Mindy’s death appears to be from a single self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Following the news of Mindy’s passing, other country music stars expressed their condolences. “I grew up listening to Mindy McCready,” Carrie Underwood tweeted. “So sad for her family tonight… Many prayers are going out to them.”
Wynonna Judd added, “It breaks my heart what addiction continues to take from this life.” She explained, “Addiction is a disease & not a character flaw. When the pain becomes too much, it causes people to want that pain to stop. This is just so unbelievable & so sad.”
In her least interview, Mindy talked about David’s death. “I have never gone through anything this painful,” she said. “He didn’t just touch my heart, he touched my soul. He was my soulmate.”
Mindy leaves behind two young sons, Zander, 6, and Zayne, 10-months.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to Mindy’s family and friends.
