Dr. Drew Pinsky Addresses The Death Of Mindy McCready

February 18, 2013 03:00 PM by Megan Wilson

Mindy McCready, 37, died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound this morning.  She’s best known for her country song, “Guys Do It All The Time”, and her agonizing spiral into drug addiction, depression, and suicide attempts.  Mindy appeared on Celebrity Rehab With Dr. Drew during her attempts to get sober, and Dr. Drew spoke with VH1 today to discuss McCready’s suicide. Keep reading for the details.

Since the mid 90′s, Mindy was securely seated at the top of the country charts.  After her recent struggles with sobriety, her boyfriend, David Wilson, apparently committed suicide.  Allegations surfaced that painted Mindy in a harsh light-accusing her of pulling the trigger.  It seems that McCready was struggling with severe depression, and decided to take her own life. Dr. Drew addressed the incident today on one of VH1′s blogs.  “I am deeply saddened by this awful news,” he said.  “My heart goes out to Mindy’s family and children. She is a lovely woman who will be missed by many.”  Dr. Drew admitted that he had not seen Mindy lately, nor had been involved in her recent treatment; he did, however, say he reached out to her recently after learning of David’s suicide.  “She was devastated. Although she was fearful of stigma and ridicule she agreed with me that she needed to make her health and safety a priority,” Dr. Drew said. “Unfortunately it seems that Mindy did not sustain her treatment.”

“Mental health issues can be life threatening and need to be treated with the same intensity and resources as any other dangerous potentially life threatening medical condition,” Dr. Drew wrote.  “Treatment is effective. If someone you know is suffering please be sure he or she gets help and maintains treatment.”

Mindy leaves behind two children.  Our hearts go out to her family and friends during this difficult time.

AA and NA are ANONYMOUS not only for privacy but for the therapy itself, a big part of rehab requires checking our ego at the door. Pinsky has broken many rules of ethics in this regard and compromised his “patients” (celebrity participants) recovery.
