Private Investigator Danno Hanks Talks Mindy McCready: She Was Literally Having Me Write Her Suicide Note

Hindsight is 20/20 but offers little comfort in the wake of a tragedy and private investigator, Danno Hanks knows just what that feels like. Looking back, he wishes he could have put the clues together sooner and maybe Celebrity Rehab With Dr. Drew alum, Mindy McCready would still be alive. Keep reading for more details.
According to E! News, Hanks had worked with McCready since her appearance on Celebrity Rehab With Dr. Drew. She had most recently asked him to work on the cover of a song written by Courtney Dashe called “I’ll See You Yesterday,” and produced by McCready’s late boyfriend, David Wilson.
Hanks said the song held special meaning for McCready and was helping her deal with the sudden loss of Wilson following his apparent suicide last month. “She said she wanted to put together this video to help people deal when someone had suffered a suicide in their life and God, she was literally having me write her suicide note.” He added, “If I had known, I would have made sure someone was there with her all the time.”
McCready dropped hint after hint of her impending suicide but Hanks didn’t put it together until it was too late. “Looking back,” he said, “She is feeding me this stuff for the video she said, ‘I have someone working on getting all the rights in place – it will be licensed to Courtney for the royalties,’ and I’m like, ‘Hey, what’s the big deal?’” He explains, “But now I understand – she wanted to make sure it got out there and there was no copyright problems.”
The day before her death, Hanks said McCready sent him a frame for the video that included contact information for a suicide hotline but he didn’t think much of it. “I thought she was talking about sending a message about suicide for David’s death…this is unbelievable. She was sending me a message.” He added, “I wish I had been more alert to what it was.”
On Sunday, deputies from the Cleburne County Sheriff’s department responded to reports of gunshots fired and found McCready’s body on the front porch of her Arkansas home. Her death appears to be from a single self-inflicted gunshot wound.
“I just didn’t think she would do this,” Hanks said. “She had two kids to live for…I still can’t fathom the whole thing.”
Our thoughts and prayers go out to Mindy’s family and friends during this difficult time.
