Just one month after losing self-described “soulmate” David Wilson, country singer and Celebrity Rehab alum Mindy McCready committed suicide this past Sunday. Now, in an unprecedented display of thoughtfulness, the producer responsible for a Mindy McCready sex tape is halting distribution.
Prior to her tragic death, Mindy McCready had already suffered from a severe decline in her music career. This was largely related to negative publicity surrounding Mindy’s issues with the law and rampant drug abuse. And another occurrence that didn’t reflect too well on Mindy? The 2010 release of a sex tape featuring Mindy and alleged lover Roger Clemens. Mindy had admitted to a long-term affair with the former athlete, although he consistently denied havign an affair. Entitled Baseball Lovers, this scandalous sex tape featured a steamy love scene as well as footage of Mindy McCready talking about her relationship with Roger Clemens. Although Mindy never claimed to have authorized the tape, she also never disputed it or filed a lawsuit against Vivid Entertainment, the company behind its production.
In light of Mindy’s recent suicide, selling this type of sex tape probably seemed in incredibly bad taste. At least, we’re assuming that’s the reason behind Vivid Entertainment’s decision to halt distribution of the tape. The freeze is effective immediately and at this point, its continuation will be indefinite. Additionally, Vivid Entertainment will take all footage related to Mindy McCready down from its website. It’s tough to regulate digital distribution, but it at least appears that the company is doing its best to pay some form of respect to a tragically fallen star. And in that industry, such a move is a definite rarity.
