Travis Barker Ditches Blink-182 Tour

February 19, 2013 12:30 PM by Stephanie Gustafson

Travis Barker loves performing with Blink-182, but not enough to travel with the band to Australia. The Meet the Barkers star says he’ll be passing on the opportunity to accompany his band on tour in Australia as a tragic accident has left him deathly afraid of flying.

A fear of flying can definitely get in the way when you’re a member of a popular rock band. After all, hit bands need to go on tour and few are apt to always stay on the same continent. Unfortunately, Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker is not about to get over his fear of planes in time to join his band in Australia. Especially given the circumstances surrounding the phobia: a few years back, Travis was unfortunate enough to be involved in a plane accident. While Travis and DJ AM escaped, the tragedy ended in the death of four passengers, including Travis’ assistant Chris Baker and security guard Che Still.

Travis explained the unfortunate news the other day on Facebook: “I’m sorry to announce I won’t be joining Blink-182 on this Australian tour. I still haven’t gotten over the horrific events that took the last time I flew when my plane crashed and [four] people were killed, two being my best friends. I gave the band my blessing to take another drummer if they still wanted to do the tour without me. I hope to come to Australia again some day perhaps by ship if need be. Unfortunately, there wasn’t a boat that worked with the schedule this time around. Once again I’m sorry to all the fans.”

This certainly is an unfortunate situation for both Travis and his Australian fan base! We hope that he is able to eventually get over his fear or at least obtain better ship scheduling!
