American Idol might be receiving record ratings, but last season’s winner Phillip Phillips certainly isn’t contributing to the current viewership rankings. The singer is simply too busy to watch the show that launched his career!
It’s generally assumed that former reality stars will at least occasionally watch the shows that made them famous in the first place. But sometimes, their reality careers are so successful that these stars can’t spare the time to lounge in front of the TV.
This is currently the case for Phillip Phillips, the 2012 American Idol victor who later topped the charts with hit single Home. Phillip’s life is ridiculously busy as a of late, which is why he’s been doing a terrible job of keeping up on the Idol gossip. The singer told Billboard, “Honestly, I’m not watching the show anymore. I’ve been so busy.”
He might not be familiar with the current contestants, but Phillip has had enough experience with the show to offer this season’s batch of singers some excellent advice: “Be yourself. Be your best self. Don’t be rude to anybody. Just go out there and have a good time. And build those friendships.”
Part of being your best self involves sucking it up and singing Home for the millionth time, even if you tired of the song long ago. When asked about his upcoming performance for All-Star Saturday Night, Phillip joked about how, once again, he’d be singing his trademark song. “‘But it’s an honor to be here. I never dreamed that I’d be in the same building as LeBron James or all these other great basketball players. I’m not complaining. People enjoy the song and I’ll play it for them.”
That’s the spirit! We’re glad Phillip Phillips is enjoying post-Idol life and are excited to see what else the singer has in store!
