I’m thrilled to see Zoanette Johnson representing the beauty and strength of the Liberian people on the American Idol stage! I recently read the book, Day of the Elephants by Ron Swager and Ed Chinn. It is the beautiful story of a Liberian refugee named Roland Deah who was separated from his family and experienced the extreme ravages of civil war. Now Roland lives in Tucson, Arizona. So, when I heard Zoanette’s story on American Idol, I thought, YES! This is America! No one, except those who’ve walked in Zoanette’s shoes, truly knows the obstacles she’s overcome to be on that stage. Check out Roland’s story at http://www.coolriverpub.com.
