All season long on The Biggest Loser, we’ve not only followed the adult contestants, but also three very special children, all of whom have been looking to change their lives. Recently, RTVM had the chance to chat with the oldest of three teenagers, Sunny Chandrasekar, who dished about her experience thus far, and how much she loves to inspire other kids!
Childhood obesity is one of this season’s themes on The Biggest Loser, and they even brought in three overweight teenagers in their effort to fight the epidemic. All season long, viewers have been watching Sunny fight her battle, and we had the chance to chat with her recently. Check out her interview below!
Sunny on her overall experience with The Biggest Loser: Overall, my experience has been completely positive. I feel like I have been successful in determining why I put all the weight on to begin with. I am so much happier now. Teen obesity is such a huge epidemic, I mean, I have friends dealing with body image issues. I have been able to help my friends, and just to know that I made an impact on someone, is pretty cool.
This week, we watched as Sunny broke down about her mom’s weight, and how she didn’t want her to die young because of her health. She talked about her struggle to get her mom healthy and fit: That’s actually going pretty well. I feel so blessed to have been able to even have that conversation with her. We are making so many new lifestyle changes together. We’ve begun cooking healthy meals together, and it’s great to bond with her like that. She’s doing great, and she’s losing weight.
Sunny’s thoughts on the trainers: and what her workout routine is like at home:
The trainers are great. I was put with Jillian, but I also got the chance to work with Bob and Dolvett. Each one of them knows exactly what they are doing, and they treated us kids with so much respect. It’s incredible to be able to work with such experts.
I do a lot of Zumba classes with my friends. I do go to the gym, and do a lot of strength training and cardio.
The toughest part of the whole experience for Sunny:
My biggest struggle has been managing my time. You know, I’m still in high school, where as the contestants are on the ranch constantly. I am also have homework, and I am thinking of college, all while trying to get healthy and fit. There are some days that I am just so tired, but I have to push through to get it done. I really had to learn how to fit it all in.
The biggest surprise to Sunny about the whole journey:
Exercise! I was surprised that I actually enjoy it now. I like going to the gym, and I never realized that exercise can be fun. I used to bing eat, and now I exercise instead. That really surprised me.
Sunny’s best advice for other teens struggling with obesity:
The best thing that I have learned is to love who I am and have self-esteem. I don’t want to be unhealthy now because I love who I am. I would reccomend that other find out what they love about themselves, and go with it. It needs to be mental, as well as determination.
Sunny also said that her diet has changed drastically with the addition of vegetables and fruit, which keep her feeling full and feuled! She shared her gratitude to The Biggest loser, Jillian Michaels, and Dr. Joanna for all their dedication and help.
Be sure to tune in next week to check out Sunny on makeover week! I was advised to have the tissues ready while watching!
