Nine days after her body was found on the front porch of her Arkansas home, Country music singer and Celebrity Rehab With Dr. Drew alum, Mindy McCready was laid to rest. Funeral services took place on Tuesday, Feb. 26 in her hometown of Fort Myers, Florida. Keep reading for more details.
According to E! News, funeral services were held for the late singer at the Crossroads Baptist Church in Fort Myers. Before the services began, several of Mindy’s songs played in rotation including “Wrong Again,” “Ten Thousand Angels,” “I’m Still Here,” and the last song she recorded before her untimely passing, “I’ll See You Yesterday.”
While hundreds turned out to mourn the fallen star, eyewitnesses say it was a simple yet beautiful service that celebrated Mindy’s life as an everyday person rather than highlighting her fame as a country singer or a troubled star.
Her mother, Gayle Inge officiated the service as a slideshow of family photos flashed on two large video screens. A portrait of Mindy was displayed at the altar near her casket.
Mindy’s stepfather, Michael Inge played “You Are My Special Angel” on an acoustic guitar before giving the closing prayer. Her three brothers along with cousins served as pallbearers.
At the time of her death, Mindy was 37-years-old. Her two young sons, Zander, 6, and Zayne, 10-months, were not in attendance at the funeral services.
In lieu of flowers, Mindy’s family asked that donations be sent to the Mindy McCready Children Trust c/o John Ammons, Edison National Bank, 13000 S. Cleveland Avenue, Fort Myers, Florida 33907.
In addition, a memorial service to be given by fellow musicians and friends is scheduled to take place in Nashville, TN next month.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Mindy’s family and friends during this most difficult time.
