What does meatballs and celebrities have in common? It’s the first challenge the 14 celebrities take on during the premiere of NBC’s hit reality TV series Celebrity Apprentice. Donald Trump returns to the boardroom with an all-star cast from past seasons along with Ivanka Trump and Piers Morgan. Fundraising on both teams sets a new record for a first task and impresses The Donald! Kelly Ripa, Michael Strahan and Paul Teutul Sr. all make appearances! Keep reading to find out who is the first celeb to hear, “You’re Fired!”
Right out of the gate, the 14 returning celebrities must create and sell meatballs in a fundraising competition for charity. The celebrities divide into two teams. Bret Michaels’ team name is Power and includes Brande Roderick, La Toya Jackson, Omarosa Manigault, Lil Jon, Claudia Jordan and Dennis Rodman. Trace Adkins’ team, Plan B includes Stephen Baldwin, Lisa Rinna, Dee Snider, Marilu Henner, Gary Busey and Penn Jillette. Brande Roderick is the Project Manager for Team Power and Trace Adkins is the Project Manager for Team Plan B.
The drama starts already when La Toya Jackson starts commenting about the number one villain in reality TV history, Omarosa Manigault. La Toya says she doesn’t understand why Omarosa is on the show because she isn’t a celebrity! She also adds that Omarosa is evil and mean and she doesn’t want to be around that kind of person!
The challenge begins and after making their meatballs, both teams have special opportunities to appear on Live with Kelly and Michael. Brande selects Lil Jon and Bret Michaels to represent Team Power while Trace Adkins selects Marilu Henner and Penn Jillette to represent Team Plan B.
Donald Trump reveals that Kelly and Michael liked Brande’s team’s meatballs the best so Team Power wins an additional $20,000 to be totaled into their donations.
With Brande at the helm, Team Power is hard at work selling meatballs and making calls for donations. Paul Teutul Sr. and former Real Housewives of New Jersey star Danielle Straub show up and make donations to Team Power. Omarosa is the cashier, in-charge of collecting and keeping track of all of the donations. Meanwhile, Team Plan B has a very different approach. Trace Adkins’ risky strategy is to tap into their resources—collecting donations from friends. Trace even puts: “Closed for Private Event” signs on the doors. However, he pulls in a $100,000 donation from a single donor.
In the boardroom, Donald Trump announces that Team Plan B rose a little over $419,000 without selling a meatball! As for Team Power, they raised slightly under 250,000, with Brande singlehandedly bringing in about $132,000. In the end, Donald Trump tells Trace Adkins he will have the honor of bringing his charity–the Red Cross–a check for $670,000.
Now, the real battle begins as each celebrity on Team Power squirms hoping to keep their place in the competition. Brande’s managerial skills are not up to par but even Donald Trump admits that she still raised a ton of money. Things get really out of control when Donald asks each celebrity how much they raised and after adding up their answers, the total is over the actual amount! Brande, the Project Manager defers to her cashier, Omarosa who can’t even give the exact amount that everybody brought in. Donald, Piers and Ivanka quickly grow annoyed with the conflicting totals. Team Plan B is watching from their suite all of the drama unfold and agree that Omarosa is throwing Bret under the bus. Brande brings back in Bret Michaels and La Toya Jackson who according to Omarosa raised under $20,000 each but they maintain that they brought in more than that. Donald Trump chooses to fire Bret Michaels.
