The Biggest Loser Recap: Did History Repeat Itself On Makeover Week?

March 04, 2013 08:23 PM by Lisa Princ

Last week on The Biggest Loser, the contestants had to face their fears, and tonight would be facing their families. Yes, it was our favorite week – makeover week! But when the contestants were given a goal loss in exchange for immunity, would we be watching as history repeated itself?

Yes, our favorite week aired tonight on The Biggest Loser…makeover week! The final five, plus the three kiddos were greeted by style and fashion gurus Tim Gunn and Ken Paves. Now that they all had the changes on the inside, it was time to change on the outside. First, the three teenagers looked wonderful, you could tell that they were working hard at home – and their happiness was the most amazing thing we’ve seen on the show.

Danni’s makeover was probably my favorite one. She got a gorgeous hair cut, complete with red highlights and curls – she looked stunning! The guys all got clean shaven and haircuts, which was kind of boring, but as soon as they got dressed up, they looked hot as well. Now we could see why Francelina fell for Jeff, his gorgeous eyes were glowing tonight. The resident whiner Gina also got a cute new cut and what looked like highlights, but the after product did not look much different than before.

Needless to say, the contestants’ families were shocked by their new looks, and of course, in typical Biggest Loser style, there was a challenge at home. If they could lose 5% of their body weight while at home, they would gain immunity at the weigh in! But that proved to be a lot harder than they had anticipated with temptations all around them. We watched proudly as Jeff, Gina, and Joe all avoided the high calorie, fatty, sodium filled foods while dining at their favorite restaurants.

Danni decided the best bet for her would be to cook her own meals, and she even included her dad, as she was hoping to get him on the right track to good health. Jackson was in for a shock when he opened his mom’s fridge and saw nothing but things that he could not eat. After a tear filled heart to heart with his mom, Jackson took her out grocery shopping so that they could all start eating healthier at home.

Then the final five each had to lead their own work out. Danni brought in season 11 winner, Olivia to help get her crowd motivated. Meanwhile, Joe had some competition – his brother. While Joe was at the ranch, his brother had been working his butt at home, and it showed. Who knew that Joe even had a twin brother? It was great to see them motivating each other and sharing tips. Gina desperately tried to motivate one of her very obese friends, and then she worked out with her husband, who doesn’t look like he needs to workout, but hey, he was very supportive – and she whined considerably less this week.

Jeff was surprised by his sister and parents, who decided that while he was gone, they would turn his basement bedroom into a bedroom and gym! Jeff didn’t even have to leave his house to workout – talk about a supportive family. Sunny also shared her new found confidence with her friends, and Biingo’s sister had us in tears when she told him how proud she was of him.

But as sweet as the reunions were, the contestants needed to up the ante to lose the weight this week. The entire episode I was wondering if we would have a repeat of Chism last season. When they got back on the ranch, this is how they fared on the scale:

Gina from 173 to 163 (-10)

Jackson from 250 to 235 (-15)

Jeff from 295 to 276 (-19)

Joe from 261 to 244 (-17)

Danni from 184 to 174 (-9)

Yep, that meant that every one of them lost their 5% and would be sticking around for the final weigh in. Can you believe it’s the last weigh in next week? We can’t either!

The contestants all talked about how their weight loss shows that this can be done at home, but it was not told to us HOW they did it. From 9 to 19 pounds lost in one week without the ‘ranch’? I spend up to two hours a day at my fitness center and the best I can do is 1 or 2 pounds a week. Can’t complain since that comes out to over 50 pounds a year, but it would be great to lose 10 in one week.
