The Taste Season Finale Recap: Too Many Cooks in the Kitchen

March 12, 2013 07:43 PM by Shayla Perry

After a super sizzling (and super short) season, it’s time for the finale of ABC‘s latest reality show, The Taste. Which of the four celebrity mentors will have their contestant walk away with the win? And which of them almost gets their chef eliminated??

With Nigella Lawson‘s chefs now out of the competition, it’s down to Khristianne, Diane, Sarah, and Gregg, to pull off a win for their mentors, Ludo Lefebvre, Brian Malarkey, and the incomparable Anthony Bourdain.

For the final Team Taste, the contestants will be making tapas for acclaimed chef Jose Andres, under the watchful eye of their mentors.

Each chef will be responsible for making 3 spoons each in just one hour, creating  tapas bites that  feature at least one of the three special ingredients. The worst cook will be eliminated

Khristianne is feeling quite confident, having dined at Jose’s Las Vegas restaurant several times, and apparently being a pseudo stalker.

Will Anthony Bourdain’s strategy of straying from Spanish food pay off for Diane?

As the clock winds down, Ludo is concerned about Gregg’s spoons, which he feels lack taste…and, well, it IS the title of the show, so that’s something he’s gonna want to take care of.

With no time left on the clock, Jose returns to the kitchen, blindly tasting each of the 12 spoons.

So far, Khristianne is on cloud 9, with Jose complimenting 2 of her 3 spoons. Things aren’t looking so good for Diane, whose mentor’s suggestion to add tomato to a spoon could cost her (Bourdain!).

Surprisingly, despite having a few good comments from Andres, it’s Gregg who’s sent home before the next phase of the competition.

Now, it’s all down to the final three. And to cheer them on…their closest friends and family members enter the studio.

For the final Solo Taste Test, each contestant will once again be challenged with 3 separate dishes, but this time they’ll have 2 hours to work, and the best part of all (especially for Khristianne) — they’ll also have the help of Jose Andres. Well, that “help” actually turned out to be Jose trying to mess with their minds while they cooked.

Sarah’s chosen a rather complicated menu, as well as Diane. Jose warns that she’s trying to put too much on each spoon, but unlike the other challenges, she’s decided not to listen to what he says and goes with her gut.

Home cook Sarah finishes before the two pros. Is this a sign?

The contestants and their loved ones watch from above as the judges taste each spoon.  All of the contestants have at least one “perfect” spoon. But which one will be named the winner.

After much deliberation — in front of the chefs’ family members — the judges finally lock in their decisions.

The third place winner is Sarah, who we really thought could’ve won since everyone seemed to love all three of her spoons. In second place is Diane, which makes Khristianne the Season 1 winner of The Taste. We’re sure Charlie Sheen is proud.

Seriously? That pretentious deviant won? I wouldn’t eat anything made by that he-she. Gross.

i really enjoyed the first season of the taste. the chemistry between the 4 judges was great. loved the witty banter btw ludo and nigella. the verbal pissing btw malarkey and ludo was hilarious. but anthony bourdain is truly incomparable. he gave the funniest lines and the most sarcastic remarks.
i so wish i can taste the food. K deserves to win. she puts her heart and soul into her cooking. she will have a bright future ahead of her culinary career. no doubt about that! hail to the winning chef! i look forward to season 2!

I really enjoyed “The Taste”. It’s really got a great concept compared to the other “Chef inspired” shows. I also liked the personalities of the judges. Their fun and feisty banter was half the fun of the entire season. They all complemented each other really well. I was not happy with the winner. Who would have thought that the winning chef’s only claim to fame is cooking for Charlie Sheen? Kristianne rubbed me the wrong way from the start, but not as much as Gregg did (good riddance to his cocky attitude!). I really liked Sarah from the beginning. I really liked her and Diana’s attitudes throughout. It’s kind of funny that Ludo, who was the only judge with two chefs left in the competition could not pull out a win? Does anyone else think he had a little flirtation going with Sarah? I would have liked to have seen Malarky win because he and Nigella were my favorite judges. But honestly, I really liked all of them. Anyway, do you think Kristianne with stay working for Charlie or will this win give her some other offers that she can’t “refuse”? I bet she makes a crap load of money working for him (and putting up with his eccentricities). Maybe he’ll give her a nice big raise to keep her! Anyway, to wrap up, I did enjoy this show and hope it returns for a second season. Go girls — let’s win it again!

Was not a great cooking competition to watch. Too much drama between cooks and other cooks and mentors. Couldn’t understand much of what Ludo said and sick of seeing him flirt with Sarah. Won’t be sorry if this one doesn’t come back for another season.

I loved this show and was glad to see Khristianne win. Diane was an obnoxious jerk. I hope there is a season 2.

Loved the Taste!! Recorded every episode on my Pvr. So glad K won she was by far the most consistent and talented chef. Loved everything about the show except for the hunger I felt watching. I wish I was a judge! I will be anticipating another season for sure!!
