Sex sells, says host Louise Roe, and the ultimate goal on Fashion Star is to sell, sell, sell. So, this week on Fashion Star, the mentors, Nicole Richie, John Varvatos, and Jessica Simpson, challenge the remaining designers to create their sexiest pieces. Bring on the bidding wars!
Buyers: Caprice Willard from Macy’s, Terron E. Shaefer from Saks Fifth Avenue, and Erika De Salvatore from Express.
Team Nicole: Sexy designs are no problem for Daniel Silverstein. The designer says it’s his “thing” and describes his fashions as “bad ass bitch.” Priscilla Barrosso designs her own dream dress with “cobblestone streets of Paris on a Saturday night” as her inspiration. Johana Hernandez, my new hero, doesn’t care to make a club dress because “not all of us want to be feeling like a sausage in a dress.”
On the Runway: Daniel presents his Bodycon Dress first and wows the mentors. “Absolutely stunning,” says Jessica. Erika bids $60,000 and Caprice bids $95,000. Macy’s wins. Priscilla’s Dream Dress flops, sadly, as the overall look fails to come together. Caprice explains, “The choice of fabrics and how they were put together took away from an otherwise exquisite piece.” Johana’s Sheer Maxi Dress excites everyone in the room! The audience goes crazy. The mentors love the sexy yet flattering look of the dress. Two of the buyers, Caprice and Erika, fight for the dress, with the winning bid of $125,000 coming from Express.
Team John: Silvia Arguello is initially torn between “red and tight” and “conservative” sexy and ultimately strives for “chic and feminine” sexy. Silvia somehow manages to lose her black fabric and has no choice but to make her second dress in an ugly shade of green. Amber Perley informs us that she knows what looks sexy on a woman because she’s from Texas / the South. Brandon Scott thinks men strive to look powerful, adding, “Men don’t care about sexy. They care that women look sexy.” When John tells him that the fabric on his James Bond inspired jacket is all wrong, Brandon vows to do James Bond how he wants to do James Bond.
On the Runway: Brandon’s Double Flap Jacket is a Triple Flop Mess, as all three buyers pass. Still critiquing, John says, “It looks more preppy than James Bond.” Amber’s Open Back Dress goes to Express for $60,000. Terron bids $55,000 for Cassandra Hobbins‘ Sheer Midi Dress, adding, “The blue is spot-on color trend for spring.” Saks also snatches up Silvia’s Draped Mini Dress, though not the ugly green one, for $50,000.
Team Jessica: David Appel feels down about last week’s fashion miss and opts to create a sexy fitted men’s blazer this week. Tori Nichel sets out to create a short and flirty dress made out of silk chiffon, but Jessica warns, “Tone it down. You don’t want it to look too Dancing with the Stars. You need to add a little more sophistication to it.” Hunter Bell feels all kinds of pressure after her tremendous success last week. When JesseRay and Garrett Gerson present a sweater vest, Jessica advises the duo to add some length and make it a dress instead.
On the Runway: Tori’s One Should Dress fails to impress the buyers. There aren’t any bids for David’s Moto Blazer either. Terron and Erika bid $50,000 and $75,000, respectively, on Hunter’s Mesh Ponte Dress. Terron chooses not to increase his offer; Express wins. About the model wearing the dress, Erika shares, “She’s showing off sexy but her girls aren’t popping out, love that.” JesseRay and Garrett’s Basket Weave Dress sparks a bidding war. Express wins with a bid of $140,000, and Erika says, “You guys really brought it this week. You blew me away.”
Elimination: The mentors nominate Team Jessica’s David and Tori. Caprice votes to eliminate David. Terron votes to eliminate Tori. Erika sends Tori home.
