Karolina Kurkova, supermodel coach of Team Karolina on Oxygen’s, The Face, airing on Tuesdays at 9/8c, talks about how she got started in modeling at the tender age of 15. Take the jump for more details.
According to OMG!, Karolina said when she was growing up she was taller than most kids her age, in fact, she was the tallest person in her whole school. She said she had long arms and long legs, which left her very uncoordinated. And she slouched a lot on purpose to try to conceal her height.
At that time, she said she never liked being in front of a camera, she never liked having her picture taken. She wasn’t comfortable with her appearance because people would look at her photos and point out her height.
So how in the world did she ever break into modeling, an industry where she would have to be in front of a camera on a daily basis? Karolina explained that a friend of hers from school took some pictures of her when they were goofing around and without telling her, the friend sent the photos to an agency in Prague and they called Karolina.
But she said she really got her start in modeling when she went to Milan and met Prada and that’s when she came into the fashion world. Then she came to New York and met with Anna Winters, who put her on the cover of American Vogue at 16-years-old. And the rest is history! To this day, Karolina is the youngest model ever to grace the cover of American Vogue.
What do you think about how Karolina got a start in modeling? Do you think she would have become a model if her friend had not sent her photos to an agency? Post a comment and tell us what you think.
