Any time there’s a season premiere of Dancing with the Stars, you know somebody’s going to bomb. This time, the prize for the worst dance went to comedian DL Hughley. The judges didn’t sugarcoat their responses, explaining exactly what needed fixing (in other words, everything). But DWTS alum Kirstie Alley thinks their criticism was less constructive and more, well, destructive.
DL Hugley’s performance on last night’s premiere of Dancing with the Stars ranks as one of the worst in the show’s history, putting the comedian right alongside Kate Gosselin, Chaz Bono and Bristol Palin for being the show’s most cringe-worthy contestant. The judges’ responses were less than enthusiastic, with Len Goodman advising, “You gotta work your butt off, I’m telling you. Otherwise, it’s the boulevard of broken dreams, because this was no good.”
Normally, Kirstie Alley has gotten on very well with Carrie Ann, Len and Bruno, but after she saw them criticizing DL Hughley, she was pretty angry. She tweeted, “I totally Hate all the judges on DWTS who were horribly mean to DL Hughley!!! So mean I want to stomp ur mean little heads in..he was TRYING.” Kirstie’s fans agreed, with many retweeting her post and adding their own words of encouragement for the heavily-criticized contestant.
Partner Cheryl Burke also thinks that DL is putting forth a commendable effort, although she concedes that he plenty to work on. The first big challenge for DL? Working on loosening up. Cheryl feels that, once he’s a bit more comfortable on the dance floor, DL will be a lot more fun to watch.
Do you agree with Kirstie that the DWTS judges were too harsh last night? Sound off in the comments section below!
