Justin Bieber is not the only celebrity to show up super late for a scheduled performance — it looks like Rihanna is following in his footsteps! The former X Factor guest star showed up nearly five hours late for a charity event at a Chicago high school, and just like the Biebs, decided to blame it all on bad traffic.
Everyone knows that traffic in Chicago is awful. But awful enough to account for arriving over four hours late to a charity concert? According to Rihanna, it’s that bad. The celeb was supposed to arrive at Chicago’s Barrington High School at 1 pm on Thursday. She announced the visit by tweeting, “I can’t wait to meet these kids man! They’re major inspirational life changers.” But RiRi soon found herself in the midst of a nasty traffic jam, which she also made a point of tweeting as proof of her predicament.
Well known for her workaholic tendencies, Rihanna was hardly sitting idle while waiting for traffic to let up. She continued to update her Twitter feed with more words of praise for the kids who were, at that moment, patiently awaiting her arrival. Tagging the posts #BHS #facts, Rihanna explained, “They raised 40 thousand dollars for Joplin Missouri after the tragic tornado hit Missouri in May last year…they participated in the relay for life for the American Cancer Society and raised $700,000.” According to Rihanna, the school’s other accomplishments include raising $245,000 for a Down syndrome awareness center, as well as an addition $35,000 to build homes for South Dakota’s Crow Creek Reservation.
The students did finally get to see Rihanna, although the singer only stayed for fifteen minutes. However, students were given tickets for the singer’s United Center concert that night, so at least there was some form of consolation for disappointed fans.
