Shakira certainly impressed during last night’s debut as a judge on The Voice. But host Carson Daly has always known the singer had it in her. And he expects that it won’t be long before she’s the new favorite among viewers.
Carson Daly is a huge fan of Shakira, but he also feels that, in some ways, she’s the new Blake Shelton. Obviously, he’s not talking about music styles here, because Blake’s a country guy…and Shakira’s focus is on latin music. But as with Blake, a lot of people don’t really know that much about Shakira — and according to Carson, they’ll like her more and more as the season continues.
Shakira’s career has proven incredibly successful thus far but Carson thinks she stands to gain from her presence on the show. He points to the huge bounce Blake Shelton’s career received as a sign of what the series can do for its judges. “I think Shakira, this TV season, will be that girl crush. Once she’s on TV for a few episodes and people start to feel out her vibe, I think they’re going to get it. She does a lot more than shake her hips.”
The viewers are already expressing great enthusiasm for both Shakira and fellow newbie Usher. And while their presence may have a positive impact on the ratings, Carson still feels that viewers are tuning in to see a lot more than their favorite celebs on the judging panel. “This is about the contestants. The show is greater than any one coach.”
