Keith Urban Knows That He Needs To Be A Tougher Judge On American Idol

March 26, 2013 12:00 PM by Lisa Princ

Sure, being a judge on a reality show has got to be a hard gig, so we can definitely see why American Idol‘s Keith Urban would go easy on the contestants, especially when they are very emotional. However, Urban also realizes that he needs to be tougher, as he explains why being he has such a hard time with the tough critique.

When American Idol‘s Jimmy Iovine stated recently that the judges need to be tougher on the contestants this season, Keith Urban was in complete agreement, but that doesn’t mean he can do it! According to People Magazine, Urban dished that being tough is certainly no easy task on any of the judges. “We’re artists talking to a young artist on camera in front of millions of people, trying to give constructive criticism in a way that doesn’t humiliate them,” Urban explained, adding that he never wants to be the one who humiliates someone.

But while Urban may agree that he is not so tough on the panel, he also admits that when he sees the emotion in a contestant who is not ready to hear the criticism, he will go easier on them. Keith also feels that American Idol is the toughest show out there for these kids to endure because: “The very first thing you are going to do on this show is walk into a room, see the four of us, and have to sing with no band, no microphone, no nothing. No other show does that.”

Here’s a thought Keith – just let Nicki and Mariah be the bad guys since no one enjoys them on the panel anyway.
