Shakira Can Definitely Hold Her Own On The Voice

March 26, 2013 06:06 AM by Lisa Princ

The Voice returned last night with the addition of new mentors, Usher and Shakira, and viewers were anxious to see how they did trying to fill the shoes, err, seats of Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green. While Usher proved to be the more laid back mentor, Shakira proved that a tiny Colombian woman can definitely hold her own among the boys!

“Never underestimate a 5-foot-3 Colombian girl,” Shakira gushed to the cameras for last night’s premiere of The Voice, and she was right! Fans may have been skeptical before the premiere aired about the new mentors, but after watching them, it was almost as if they had been there for the previous three seasons. While Usher played it very cool the entire time, Shakira proved to be a bit more feisty, especially with the boys!

In fact, when one hopeful hit the stage, it should have been a battle of the new mentors, but ended up being a battle between Shakira and Adam Levine. When Levine tried to put his two cents in (despite not turning his chair) about ┬áJess, who he claimed sounded like Adele, Shakira jumped on him making sure he knew that she sounded nothing like Adele. Let’s just say that Blake Shelton had a field day with this one!

But feisty was not all we saw from Shakira last night, either. She also proved that she can play the game, and play it well at that! Kris Thomas, the contestant who shocked the judges because they all thought he was a female, landed on Shakira’s team, but it was no accident. Instead, the new mentor, who was also shocked when she saw Kris, kept completely mum after turning her chair so the guys would not be in on her little secret. Yep, definitely well played!

Overall, Shakira and Usher proved to be a perfect fit on the panel! To check our full recap of last night’s show, click here.
