The Voice Recap: The Second Round Of Blind Auditions Turn The Tables On Blake Shelton

March 26, 2013 06:14 PM by Lisa Princ

The Voice kicked off season four last night with new mentors Shakira and Usher, but more impressive than the mentors, was the massive amount of talent! Could they find just as much talent tonight? The blind auditions continued, and you will not be disappointed!

The Voice kicked off night two of the blind auditions with Blake and Adam laughing at the thought of hazing the newbies. That was until Shakira and Usher entered the room and were given nothing but praise from the veteran mentors.

Tawnya Reynolds, an aspiring Country star hits the stage first – uh oh, is Blake ready for another team member so soon? Maybe not. Tawnya had an awesome old school Country sound with a voice that reminded me of a mix between Reba McEntire and Dolly Parton. Incredible. Shockingly, Blake did not turn his chair, but the other three did! Shakira really wanted her, but Blake pleaded for Tawya to choose Usher. In the end, Shakira won Tawnya over – Adam had no fight at all.

Then we met, Josiah Hawley, a male model who was out to prove that he was more than just a good looking guy. Josiah decided to take a huge risk and perform his rendition of Sunday Morning by Maroon 5. Blake thought he was bad-ass, and even loved Josiah’s bad-ass hair. Adam could hear a bit of himself in Josiah, but would Josiah choose Adam? He had three choices as all three guys loved him. Adam tried to play the “you sang my song” card, but Josiah wanted Usher.

The Voice saw their second duo hit the stage. Midas Whale, derived from “might as well,” were a pair of folk singers from Idaho. They did a Johnny Cash tune that earned all four mentors fighting over them. Shakira hit it off with them by speaking Spanish with them, which bummed out Blake, who was certain Shakira would win them over. Midas Whale had another choice, however….Adam!

19-year-old Bronx Latin artist, Cathia hit the stage next with a tune in Spanish. Truly a test of her vocal skills for the non-Spanish speaking judges. As Cathia belted out her song, Usher turned almost immediately, followed by Shakira and Blake. While the mentors were excited about her, Cathia was more excited to see all the stars. And just as Adam (who by the way, noted that he did not turn because he is an idiot) was about to tell Blake he was taking on more than he could chew, Blake beat him to the punch, but pleaded his case anyway. Too bad Cathia had her sights set on fellow Latina, so team Shakira it was.

The final blind audition of the night came from Sarah Simmons, from Nashville, TN. Could she be the one for Blake’s team tonight? Poor guys has not gotten a single team member tonight, imagine his embarrassment! Sarah started her rendition of One Of Us very softly, but when she hit the raspy notes, Adam couldn’t get to his button fast enough. All four judges eventually turned for this incredible singer, with Blake telling her she was one of his top 3 all time Voice contestants! Unfortunately for Blake, Sarah chose Adam, who was in his glory! By far, the best audition of the night!

So, after so much luck last night, Blake walked away empty handed tonight, as no one chose him!
