Angie Miller has been a front-runner on American Idol since day one, but on Wednesday night’s top eight Motown episode, she fell from grace when her rendition of the Miracles’ “Shop Around” failed to impress judge, Nicki Minaj. And she heard all about it when it came time for critiques. Keep reading to see what Minaj had to say about Miller’s performance.
According to FOX, after Miller belted out her rendition of “Shop Around,” Minaj let her know rather quickly that she wasn’t feeling it. In fact, this was the first time Minaj had found Miller’s performance to be pitchy, all over the place, and just not that great.
While Minaj understood that Miller was trying to show a different side of herself and have more fun, she didn’t like it and she wasn’t having it. Minaj told Miller she showed a side that didn’t need to be shown. “You need to stop and enjoy that people are loving what you’re doing,” Minaj said, instead of trying to act overtly sexy and have fun.
Minaj even went so far as to bring Jimmy Iovine and mentor, Smokey Robinson into her rant saying she could tell by the rehearsal video that they didn’t think this was an organic choice for her swag…she couldn’t say the word ‘now’ correctly. “If your thing is not R&B and bluesy switch it up and do what you shine at…don’t come out here and try to give us another side…we didn’t ask for another side yet,” Minaj spouted and then flipped her hair and turned away.
Talk about a harsh critique and some tough love…Did Angie deserve it? And will we see her in the bottom three on Thursday night’s results show? We shall see!
