Cory Monteith Heads To Rehab

April 01, 2013 10:00 AM by Stephanie Gustafson

Glee star and Glee Project mentor Cory Monteith has long been frank about his past struggles with addiction. Sadly, it doesn’t look like the issue was completely in the past, for the celeb has recently checked into a rehabilitation facility in hopes of getting clean.

Finn Hudson has problems of his own on Glee…but substance abuse hasn’t been one of them. But if the directors decided to go that route, they’d have an actor on hand who knew all about what can happen when you fall into drug dependency. Cory Monteith struggled greatly with drug addiction in his younger years, and based on his recent decision to check into rehab, it looks like that battle against substance abuse continues.

The rumors of a rehab visit were recently confirmed by Cory’s rep, who announced, “Cory Monteith has voluntarily admitted himself into a treatment facility for substance addiction. He graciously asks for your respect and privacy as he takes the necessary steps towards recovery.”

No specifics on the nature of Cory’s addiction this time around, but based on earlier interviews, we know that he’s struggled with alcohol along with harder drugs. He once told PARADE Magazine that, during an especially difficult period in his late teens, he’d used “anything and everything” he could get his hands on.

Cory’s costar and current girlfriend Lea Michele has been particularly supportive of his decision to seek treatment. She told People, “I love and support Cory and will stand by him through this.” The star added that she’s grateful he’s decided to get help, a sentiment she again repeated on her Twitter page yesterday.

We wish Cory Monteith the best of luck in his recovery efforts and hope he is able to return to Glee and The Glee Project soon!
