Last week’s elimination was a shocker when the celebrity going home wasn’t voted out but forced to leave due to injury. Dorothy Hamill had to pull out of Dancing With The Stars on doctor’s orders because of her back injury, which gave low-scoring competitors a reprieve for at least another week. It’s Prom Night on DWTS…let’s go!
Dorothy Hamill is in the audience to cheer on the remaining Dancing With The Stars competitors and pros in the group prom dance at the top of the show.
Aly Raisman and Mark Ballas are doing the Viennese Waltz for their prom dance tonight. Awkwardness ensued in practice when Mark tried to convey to his 18 year-old partner the feeling of touching someone you’re in love with for the first time. Ahem. On the floor, Mark is a bit of a questionable prom date in a lavender shirt and too-tight dress pants, but Aly is lovely and their routine is beautifully executed. Len pulls an April Fool’s joke on Aly, saying he’s not impressed with her dancing tonight. Bruno comments on Aly’s expression, and Carrie Ann compliments her movement quality and fluidity. The men give 8s and Carrie Ann a 7 for a total of 23.
Andy Dick and Sharna Burgess draw the Cha Cha Cha. Andy sheds tears during practice after getting frustrated and yelling. Andy is a prom nerd and Sharna’s a fantasy prom date in black leather for the routine, which seems slightly lacking in technique and features Andy ripping his shirt open at the end – gah! Bruno raves about the entertainment value while dissing the timing. Carrie Ann gives props for Andy ‘trying’, and Len tells him he’s not a great dancer but he makes him feel good. They get 6s across the board for 18 total.
Ingo Rademacher and Kym Johnson are doing the Pasa Doble and Ingo rides in on a motorcycle to pick up his prom slut (his word!) for their routine. He’s in a black tank top and jeans and she’s in a sexy red gown. It’s odd seeing a Pasa performed to a woman singing Another One Bites The Dust, but it’s solid. Carrie Ann liked it, but warns Ingo about posture. Len agrees but says there was more to cheer than jeer. Bruno gets tongue-tied over the fantasy aspect. Ingo wishes General Hospital a happy 50th anniversary before receiving his scores – three 7s for 21.
Also doing a Viennese Waltz are Lisa Vanderpump and Gleb Savchenko. They talk about needing more followers to vote for them in practice. She thinks Gleb getting naked will make all the difference – agreed! On the floor they present in classic prom outfits and dance elegantly although there are a few slip-ups. Len loved the feel of it. Bruno says it was almost regal, and Carrie Ann says she loves watching them together. Score: 21.
Kellie Pickler and Derek Hough are doing a prom Jive tonight. Wow! They perform their routine to Footloose and it’s simply amazeballs! Derek’s energy is through the roof and Kellie keeps up. Bruno raves that they were sharper than a Samurai sword. Carrie Ann calls it ridiculously amazing, and Len declares that Kellie is the Queen of the Prom! They net 8s from Bruno and Carrie Ann and a 9 from Len! 25 total.
Victor Oritz and Lindsay Arnold, who struggled last week, are faced with doing a Contemporary prom dance. Victor’s more comfortable with the style in practice. They make a very good-looking barefoot prom couple as they dance through the floor fog. It’s definitely Victor’s best dance, although he still has a few Gorilla in the Mist moments. The judges are excited about his improvement. They get 8s from Carrie Ann and Bruno and a 7 from Len for 23.
D.L. Hughley and Cheryl Burke are tackling the Salsa for their prom routine. They are lookin’ fine in their electric blue Motown-era tux and dress and dance to Sex Machine. At times it’s boss, while at other times it is the slowest most-plodding non-Salsa ever seen. Len tells D.L. if he’s a sex machine, then he’s America’s Next Top Model! He says it wasn’t Salsa and was as untidy as a teenager’s bedroom. Bruno says it looked like a hip replacement though he played the character. Carrie Ann sticks her tongue out at her fellow judges and assures D.L. she sees the improvement. They get 5s from Len and Bruno and a 6 from Carrie Ann for 16 total.
Jacoby Jones tells Karina Smirnoff he got kicked out of his prom. They’re doing a romantic Rhumba tonight. Don’t ask what they were wearing (Jacoby was shirtless) because the routine was so sexy no one noticed. Bruno raves that it was smouldering! Carrie Ann tears up over the artistry – hot, sensual and artistic. Len is shocked – it had refinement and quality of movement! They net 8s across the board for 24.
Wynonna Judd and Tony Dovolani are doing a rockin’ Samba for prom that will include some pole dancing! Wynonna had planned to unleash her inner tigress, but doesn’t actually do much dancing to Def Leppard’s Pour Some Sugar On Me, while Tony plays the scummy tattooed rocker part well. The judges all tell Wy she has to bring it more – it was too sedated. They get three 5s for 15.
The Bachelor fans… Sean Lowe and Peta Murgatroyd are reviving the Village People and YMCA with the help of a few troupe members for their prom Cha Cha Cha. Fantasy fuel – Sean is the construction worker… Sean’s full of hopeful energy though there is still awkwardness. Len loves his attack, and Bruno says it was entertaining, though they both offer er, constructive criticism. Carrie Ann says Bruno was the only thing missing from the routine! They net three 7s for 21.
Zendaya gets to take Val Chmerkovskiy to her first prom. Luckiest chick ever. They will dedicate their Viennese Waltz to her grandmother who is battling breast cancer. They make a breathtaking couple in black and white and their waltz to Que Sera, Sera is equally stunning. Grandma’s in the audience blowing kisses. Bruno says it was enchanting, Carrie Ann tells Val he’s doing a great job bringing out Zendaya’s elegance – it’s beyond her years. Len loved it too, but has a general complaint about there being too much wafting and not enough hold in the Viennese waltzes on the show. They scores three 8s for 24.
So, Kellie and Derek are atop the leaderboard again. Zendaya and Val, Jacoby and Karina, and Victor and Lindsay are all right behind them. Wynonna and Tony own the bottom spot. Who will you be voting for?
