Miranda Lambert Thinks Carrie Underwood Should Have Won At ACM Awards 2013

April 08, 2013 09:51 AM by Stephanie Gustafson

Miranda Lambert came away from the ACM Awards 2013 with the award for Female Vocalist of the Year, but, modest as ever, the country star and onetime Voice mentor thought another singer deserved to win: American Idol alum Carrie Underwood!

If anyone stole the show at last night’s ACM Awards, it was Miranda Lambert. Not only did the country star look stunning on the red carpet, she captured the prize for Female Vocalist of the Year. But perhaps even more impressive than her ability to win this award was Miranda’s reaction during her acceptance speech. Instead of keeping the focus on herself, the singer praised fellow musician Carrie Underwood, saying, ““I for sure thought Carrie had it this year, and she damn well deserves it.” Miranda then admitted, “I’m not supposed to say that on TV.”

And since she didn’t think she should be expressing too much admiration of Carrie Underwood on television, Miranda continued gushing to People Magazine after the awards show. She said that, while glad to have such support from the country music community, she felt that it was time for one of the other talented singers in the genre to receive some recognition. “I mean– I really, truly was rooting for Carrie. She really, truly is an inspiration to me as a vocalist, and I love her and I really wanted her to win tonight. She can sing any one of us under the table.”

What do you think? Did Miranda Lambert deserve to win big at the ACM Awards 2013? Or is she correct in her belief that Carrie Underwood was the best candidate for Female Vocalist of the Year? Sound off in the comments section below!

It’s pretty obvious Carrie Underwood should’ve won and good for Miranda Lambert for recognizing that. Carrie Underwood’s Blown Away album has sold almost twice what Miranda Lambert’s Four The Record has despite Blown Away coming out 8 months later. Carrie Underwood won a Grammy for Blown Away the song and they didn’t even nominate that song at the ACMs! Carrie Underwood’s singles have sold much better, she’s had more bigger hits, her tour is MUCH bigger, and she’s gotten much better reviews for the 1st 3 singles from her album than Miranda Lambert. And, Carrie Underwood’s a much better singer which she proved once again last night.

Miranda’s talented, especially as a songwriter. But she didn’t deserve to win last night.

Carrie Underwood should have WON by a landside. Carrie is still number 1 To all her fans ! ! Miranda we are so OVER YOU ! ! Alot of us would love to see Carrie nominated for more awards. PS, I am so glad Luke Bryant won Int.of the Year. And that Taylor Swift, won NOTHING ! ! Just saying :)

Yes! Carrie Underwood deserved to win female vocalist of the year AND album of the year, and should have, at the least, been nominated for entertainer of the year!

This is what I have always loved about Miranda, she is truly the person she poses to be on camera. Miranda is so truly modest and I do believe she does really care for her other female singers. Blake and Miranda are my favorite country singer couple. Carrie has had enuf attention and awards over the last few years so it is time to start giving the awards to the other well deserving singers. We love you Miranda – go girl!!!!!

Really Ann? This is Miranda’s 4th year. She knew she didn’t deserve to win, it was block voting by her Management. Let’s see…Reba’s Husband’s son (marring Kelly Clarkson)’ is the manager of Miranda & Blake. Very close community.

Mirandan Lamber is a very talented singer and woman she deserves all of her alocolades. Carrie is by far my favorite singer. She of course deserves all of her alocolades as well. They are both awesome. Miranda deserved the award.

Carrie Underwood is NOT THAT GREAT! Miranda is a better entertainer, song writer, and she is not rude to her fans like Carrie(I just want to be left alone) Underwood!!!!!
Maybe word is out that Carrie is a mean girl and the CMA/ACM has had enough complaints! FINALLY.. and as far as entertainer of the year.. that is based on ticket sales and I guarantee she has not sold out a show, if ever, IN YEARS!

@ Jennifer, I’m pretty sure Carrie has sold out her entire blown away tour, Cudos to Miranda for recognizing Carrie and not just thinking of herself!!

If entertainer of the year is based on ticket sales then why is Carrie Underwood named female touring country artist for 2012 according to Pollstar? She sold more concert tickets than any other female country artist in 2012. As for sold out shows there will be 115 shows for here Blown Away tour 2012, 2013. All but a few of those 115 concerts are sold out.

I voted for Carrie on American Idol but through the years have seen a transformation from sweet country girl to a girl with an attitude. Fans begin to pick up on that and lose interest. Very disappointing. Miranda is wonderful and hopefully will stay true to the class act she is. The one person who has never been recognized and completely looked over and has more talent and voice than anyone is Martina Mcbride.
