There must be something in the water at Dancing with the Stars, for, once again, illness and injury has led to another celeb being cut from the list of contenders. Whose bid for the mirror ball trophy ended tonight?
Tonight’s elimination is less than shocking, but more on that later. First, the episode begins with an awesome dance choreographed by the lovely Sharna Burgess. The ladies of the troupe and several of the pro dancers arrived in flight attendant outfits, and then ripped them off in favor of skimpier red getups. It was a pretty cool dance and Tom Bergeron made it clear that he was a fan.
And just as awesome is the encore performance of Aly and Mark’s contemporary dance, which managed to earn 9s across the board on Monday night. Personally, I think this was on the same level as both Zendaya and Kellie Pickler’s contemporary numbers (which only scored 8s), but I understand that the judges want to seem hardcore early on in the season.
It’s pretty obvious that Aly and Mark will be sticking around for another week. The other lucky celebs include Zendaya Coleman, Jacoby Jones, Ingo Rademacher, Kellie Pickler and….DL Hughley. Clearly, DL has a group of very dedicated fans on his side, for his dancing is still a bit painful to watch. That being said, he really has improved a lot, so I have to give him credit for that.
Brad Paisley arrives for a performance and I have to wonder why DWTS kept him on the roster in light of all the recent controversy. But Brad doesn’t sing the song that has been receiving all the negative attention as of late. And of course, Kellie Pickler is absolutely thrilled to see her country music pal! Brad’s singing is nice, of course, but even better is the lovely performance from pros Peta Murgatroyd and Tony Dovolani.
Yet another performance from the pro involves the slightly awkward pairing of Val Chmerkovskiy and Karina Smirnoff. Remember, it was Val’s brother Maks who had a rather nasty breakup with Karina a few years back. But the two were voted as the pair of pros viewers would most like to see perform, so they don’t really have a choice. And since Val’s a much bigger softie than his brother, it appears that he is more than capable of getting along with Karina.
If there’s a pairing as unlikely as that of Val and Karina, it’s the combination of Andrea Bocelli and…JLo! It’s actually a really cool duo though, and is accompanied by the dancing of Val and Anna Trebunskaya. That Val is in high demand tonight! I guess he’s making up for the absence of his brother.
When the final results arrive, we learn (surprise, surprise) that Lisa Vanderpump (and her constantly present dog, Giggy) will be headed home tonight. No shocker there. The famous housewife could barely dance last night and doesn’t really look to be in a position for another week of grueling practices. At any rate, I found this pair to be pretty darn annoying, so I’m not at all disappointed to see them go.
