Lazaro Arbos is the last man standing on American Idol. But did he do enough last night to win over the hearts of America for one more week? The judges don’t think so. Take the jump to see what they had to say about Lazaro’s performance.
Lazaro sang “Close To You” and “Angels” on Wednesday night’s Idol show. And to put it mildly, the judges were less than impressed with his performances and dished some rather harsh comments.
According to the Inquisitr, following Lazaro’s performance of “They Long To Be,” Randy Jackson tried to ease into his critique by saying he loved Lazaro as a person and that his story was an inspiration to many. But then came the cold hard truth, “No, no, no, NO…that was horrible,” Jackson said before comparing the performance to a poor audition.
And while we were expecting the crowd to break out in boos following Jackson’s harsh comment, there were none. Instead, the crowd remained silent, apparently in agreement with Jackson.
Mariah Carey, who has a hard time being too critical of the contestants, said Lazaro was beyond courageous for being in the competition but explained to him that there could not be a key change in the middle of the song and him stay in the previous key. “When you do that,” Carey said, “It’s just the end of the song.”
Keith Urban agreed saying all the judges wanted to honor Lazaro’s story and that his fans would love him no matter what but that he sang the entire song sharp because he started the song in a key that was too low and then missed the key change midway through the song.
Nicki Minaj declined comment because of time constraints but that was probably best for Lazaro’s sake.
Lazaro did a bit better on his second song, “Angels,” but not much. And even though the judges gave him props for the slight improvement, they let him know they didn’t think he stood a chance against the girls.
Tell us what you think. Did you like Lazaro’s performances on Wednesday night? Did he do enough to make the cut this week? Or do you think he will be going home following Thursday night’s results show? Sound off in the comments and let us know.
