Newly single Ryan Seacrest had a very busy day yesterday. Not only did the American Idol host give us his humor and wit during the top six performance show last night, but apparently, Seacrest was also the latest celebrity to fall victim to being swatted.
American Idol‘s Ryan Seacrest has just joined the ever-growing list of celebrities who are being swatted. In case you’re unfamiliar with the term “swatting,” it refers to prank calls to the police, who at one point were sending out SWAT teams to the celebrities’ homes, thus earning the pranks that title. So, what happened to Ryan Seacrest?
According to TMZ, police received a 911 call yesterday afternoon from someone claiming that a group of armed men were firing shots inside the American Idol host’s $40 million home. The caller described the intruders as “mobster looking guys in suits with rifles.” When police arrived at Seacrest’s home, they found only Ryan and his security team, whom they spoke with and then left.
One spokesperson for the sheriff’s office spoke with CNN recently about the swatting incidents and explained why they are taken so seriously: “It’s a very high-risk response. The problem with crying wolf is that sometimes it’s not false, so we always have to respond accordingly but cautiously.”
Seacrest joins the growing list of celebrities to be swatted, which includes Rihanna, Chris Brown, the Kardashians, Justin Bieber, Tom Cruise, and Miley Cyrus – just to name a few! Ironically, earlier that day, Ryan was chatting on his radio show with Russell Brand about his home getting swatted – perhaps the swatter was listening and thought it would be funny to swat Ryan’s home.
