Earlier this week, Kelly Ripa was honored by the Hollywood Reporter at a party given for the 35 Most Powerful People in Media. But the Next Great Baker guest star shocked everyone when she admitted she had lost touch with her former Live co-host of more than 10 years, Regis Philbin. Keep reading to see what Kelly had to say.
Kelly joined live in early 2001 after replacing former co-host, Kathy Lee Gifford. And from that time, she worked alongside Regis exchanging playful banter until his retirement more than a decade later in 2011. But now more than a year after his retirement, she admits she’s lost touch with her co-star and hasn’t seen him since he left the show.
According to ET Online, when Kelly was asked if she stayed in touch with 81-year-old Regis, she simply replied, “I haven’t seen him, no.” Really? Kelly hasn’t seen or spoken to Regis since he retired? What’s up with that? She spent more than 10 years co-hosting Live with Regis and was even moved to tears when he retired in November 2011 but she doesn’t think enough of him to keep in touch.
Following his retirement, Regis was replaced by Michael Strahan. When asked if there were any similarities between Regis and Strahan, Kelly said they were both incredible storytellers and football players. She even joked that Regis could keep up with Strahan, who by the way is a former NFL player, on the football field. “They are both fiercely competitive,” she said.
What do you think of Kelly losing touch with Regis? Are you shocked they no longer see or speak to each other? We know you have an opinion and we want to hear it so sound off in the comments section and let us know.
