X Factor guest judge, Justin Bieber was in Amsterdam on Friday, April 12 and while he was there, he decided to visit the Anne Frank house. But the comment he left in the museum guestbook offended and angered many people. What did he have to say? Take the jump to find out.
According to US Weekly, Bieber spent approximately an hour touring the Anne Frank house before taking a moment to pen a special message in the museum guestbook, a message that was thought to be disrespectful and angered many.
What could Bieber have written about Anne Frank that would have caused such uproar? “Truly inspiring to be able to come here…Anne was a great girl,” Bieber wrote in a museum guestbook, “Hopefully she would have been a Belieber.”
While Bieber’s comment started off on a positive note, many people were offended by the last part. And soon after the comment hit the news, people took to social media to sound off. One Facebook user called Bieber an idiot and said he should show some respect for such a historical figure. And others were quick to point out that he had missed the lessons of Anne entirely and that his comment was very self-serving.
A source close to the “As Long As You Love Me” singer spoke out in his defense saying Bieber had always wanted to visit the Anne Frank house, was moved by the experience of being there, and was not trying to be offensive at all.
Even a representative of the Anne Frank house spoke out following the negative comments. “He’s 19, it’s a strange life he’s living, it wasn’t very sensible but he didn’t mean bad. He was very interested in Anne Frank,” the rep said.
Tell us what you think. Was Justin simply inspired and hopeful that if Frank were alive she would enjoy his music? Or is he so self-absorbed, he used the museum guestbook as a way to toot his own horn? Sound off in the comments and let us know.
