The Voice Recap: It’s An Oaf…It’s Shrek…No, It’s Just Blake Shelton

The battle rounds continued tonight on The Voice, but after last week’s epic performances, could this batch of contestants compare? And Blake Shelton is, once again, being compared to cartoon characters!

The Voice kicked off more battle rounds tonight with the usual banter between Blake Shelton and Adam Levine, over stealing contestants. Hey, if you give them up, all is fair, right?

Team Usher’s Jessica Childress and Vedo were the first battle of the night, and immediately, Jessica was uncomfortable with Usher’s song choice, claiming that Bruno Mars’ Locked Out Of Heaven was out of her range. Meanwhile, Vedo revealed that sadly, right after his blind audition, his mother lost her battle with cancer. Both contestants rocked it, honestly, it was an amazing performance, that left us feeling good. But, Usher could only choose one winner, and that was Vedo!

Monique Abbadie and Luke Edgemon of team Shakira were the next battle of the evening, and for their song, Shakira chose You and I by Lady Gaga. Ugh, not a fan of this tune at all. Monique was definitely the stronger performer in my opinion, but it’s not up to me. The mentors seemed to prefer Luke’s performance, but did Shakira agree? Shakira did choose Monique, only because she couldn’t decide, and she assumed one of the guys would steal Luke. Shakira was right, Blake Shelton and Usher went in for the steal. Luke chose Blake Shelton.

Team Blake was up next with Jacqui Sandell and Savannah Berry. Blake chose to give the girls Little White Church. Jacqui struggled with the high notes though, going more into a growl. Would that hinder her chances of winning the battle? It was a fun performance, but Jacqui was a bit boring. And, it’s a bird, it’s a plane, no, it’s an Oaf. Not kidding, that is exactly what Adam referred to Blake as as he was praising Savannah. Not surprisingly, Blake chose to give the win to Savannah.

After a dance duet between Usher and Blake Shelton, it was time to get serious (by the way, Usher is definitely the better dancer). C. Perkins and Kris Thomas of team Shakira were up next with another Bruno Mars tune, It Will Rain. It was a great performance by two amazing artists, but the mentors felt that they were holding back. Shakira decided that Kris Thomas was the battle winner! Just as C. Perkins was saying goodbye to the mentors, he got a surprise! As he went to shake Usher’s hand, Usher hit his steal button.

It was finally time for Adam Levine to have a battle between his contestants. Midas Whale and Patrick Dodd were next up for battle. Adam Levine chose an Elvis song for these guys with Burning Love. Wow, it was an amazingly fun performance. All three guys had so much fun, and showed their humor as well during the performance.

Adam kicked off telling the guys “Adam wouldn’t like to be Adam right now,” telling them it was the hardest decision ever on all his time on the show. Adam chose to give the win to Midas Whale, for their uniqueness, but perhaps part of him was hoping that another mentor would pick up Patrick? Sadly, no one picked up Patrick.

The finale battle of the night was between Usher’s contestants, Orlando Dixon and Ryan Innes. Ain’t No Sunshine by Bill Withers was the song these two were performing, and they both blew it out of the park! The mentors were not too sure which one was better, but Usher had to make a decision. And we waited…and waited…and waited. Finally, Usher decides that the winner of the battle is Ryan Innes!

So, Orlando Dixon was headed home….until Adam Levine stole him! Yep, another great artist headed to Adam Levine’s team.
