Zooey Deschanel is the last person we’d suspect of participating in a bombing plot responsible for three deaths and nearly two hundred injuries. But according to one news source, the former So You Think You Can Dance guest judge is guilty of just that!
No worries, Zooey Deschanel was not behind the tragedy that occurred in Boston last week. Not that we were suspicious or anything. But Fort Worth residents watching the hunt for the bombing suspect last Friday were understandably confused when they saw a picture of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev with a caption that claimed, “He is 19-year-old Zooey Deschanel.”
The mistake was first noticed by television producer Peter Ogburn, and, after its initial tweet, was quickly passed around by amused Twitter followers. Later alerted to the flub by Community actor Joel McHale, Zooey used her social media presence to comment on the mix-up, tweeting, “Whoa! Epic closed captioning FAIL!” Peter Ogburn responded to Joel and Zooey’s tweets by asking, “So, you’re saying it wasn’t you?”
Obviously, Zooey has a good sense of humor and as such, didn’t seem particularly offended by the mistake. But some of the New Girl star’s most dedicated fans did find the accidental mislabeling incredibly offensive. They were quick to voice such opinions on Twitter, thus further helping to propel the topic to viral status.
Well, we’re certainly glad that Zooey Deschanel is not the bombing suspect. We’d expect her New Girl character Jess to accidentally blow up an object, but to target hundreds of innocents just does not seem characteristic of the adorkable actress.
What do you think of the Zooey Deschanel caption? Funny or pathetic? Sound off in the comments section below!
