Following an episode that included team dances and a whole lot of Stevie Wonder, we’re in for yet another elimination on Dancing with the Stars. A lot of the weaker dancers have already received the ax, so who will be next in line?
Olly Murs delivers tonight’s first guest performance. He’s actually not that bad live, something I can’t always say about a lot of other singers who have appeared as guests on the show. Still, I’m looking forward to the encore performance. Somehow, Team Paso won the honor, so even though they lost last night’s challenge, they still get to perform again. And as was the case yesterday, the whole dance is a big Zendaya and Val showcase, with the other dancers falling flat in comparison.
Time to hear some results! The first stars to wind up in the blissful land of safety…Kellie Pickler and Aly Raisman. No big surprises there — these ladies are incredibly talented and have massive fan bases to boot.
Next up, a second guest performance, this time from Will.i.am. This track features Justin Bieber, but unfortunately for the Beliebers, the Biebs is still on tour and unable to make it out for a Dancing with the Stars performance. Instead, a huge recording of Justin is blown up on the backdrop. I don’t really enjoy guest performances when they aren’t accompanied by a dance from the pros, but then again, this might have been a strange track for choreographing a ballroom dance.
Before we hear more results, we are treated to another installation of Macy’s Stars of Dance. This one’s hip hop, and while the actual dancing is really impressive, I’m a little annoyed that choreography involves so many long transitions. And not particularly interesting transitions. The costumes, on the other hand, are very interesting, with aqua-colored skinny jeans and black suit jackets with big red squares on the back.
The next dance performance is incredibly impressive. It’s inspired by what Tom Bergeron calls the “often forgotten fire rituals” and is choreographed by troupe dancer Henry. I always love when the pros show up for special performances. I know a lot of people watch this show for the celeb action, but really, it is a huge privilege to see such amazing performances from some of the world’s best ballroom dancers.
For once, the audience actually appears to have voted based on dancing talent. The three worst dancers are all in jeopardy — Sean, Victor and Andy. And while these guys are all likable in their own way, it’s not enough to make up for their clear lack of dancing talent.
The final results arrive. Andy and Sharna are still in the competition, and wow, Sharna looks surprised. That leaves Victor and Sean in the bottom two. And leaving the competition? Victor and Lindsay. He never really was able to pick up dance technique, but I do admire Victor’s fighting spirit. And clearly the judges agree, for they give him a standing ovation.
Did America make the right choice? Or do you think Victor deserved to stay another week? Sound off in the comments section below!
