The Voice Recap: Final Battle Round – Never Argue With…Shakira!

April 23, 2013 06:26 PM by Candace Young

Last night on The Voice there was a whole lotta’ stealing going on, but not everyone was lucky enough to be picked up by another mentor as Patrick Dodd, Jessica Childress, and Jacqui Sandell were eliminated. What will happen on tonight’s final round of battles? Will there be more trash talk between Blake Shelton and Adam Levine? Who will Usher choose for his final steal? Read on for the scoop!

Shakira and Joel Madden (Good Charlotte) work with Brandon Roush and Shawna P before their battle on The Voice tonight. Shakira says she put them together because they both have intense voices. She gives them Piece of My Heart by Janis Joplin, which totally seems to give Shawna the edge. It’s youth versus experience as they take the stage. Wow, both are so amazing I don’t know how Shakira will decide. Brandon and Shawna each brought their own flavor to the song and went full tilt! When it’s time to choose,  Shakira picks Shawna P.  Brandon Roush is eliminated.

For the next battle round, Hilary Scott (Lady Antebellum) and Adam Levine worked with Duncan Kamakana and Sarah Simmons on their song – Lady Antebellum’s Wanted You More.  In rehearsal, Adam warns Duncan not to get swallowed up by Sarah’s ‘big’ voice and coaches them to work on their harmonies. Well, the harmonies were no problem for them live! It’s a mesmerizing duet. I’d give it to Sarah, though, for just being extraordinary. Blake tells Sarah she’s one of his favorite singers he’s ever heard in his life. Adam chooses Sarah. Duncan Kamakana is eliminated. He leaves saying Sarah’s his pick to win it all.

It’s time for two more of Shakira’s artists to face-off. Cathia and Mary Miranda will sing one of Shakira’s own songs – Antes de las Seis (Before Six O’Clock). Mary struggles with learning the song and Cathia has pitch issues during rehearsals. When they perform live, the girls’ voices are gorgeous, but Cathia seems to have more ‘moments’ than Mary and shows more emotion. Just not sure about this one! Adam says he’d pick Mary and Blake opts for Cathia. Usher gets Shakira going on a rant by questioning if it was narcissistic to give them one of her own songs to perform. Once he gets to talk again, he advises, “Never argue with a Latin woman.”  Ultimately, Shakira picks Mary. Cathia is going home. Tearfully she heads down the steps…but wait…Usher uses his steal! Cathia is saved.

In other battles, Blake chose Justin Rivers, Usher chose Michelle Chamuel, and Adam chose Amy Whitcomb to complete their teams.

Do you think the right choices were made tonight?

The Voice crushes any song and talent competition hands down. American Idol or AGT can’t touch the singing talent they have.

I agree with Blake and Duncan. I love Sarah’s voice. Good luck to her.

P.s. I think Usher should have picked Patrick Dodd over Cathia.
