American Idol fans received an exciting surprise last night when Harry Connick Jr. returned to the show as a mentor. The ensuing reaction throughout the Twitterverse was overwhelmingly positive; now, the question is, could this talented singer wind up joining the judging panel? And who would he replace?
Suffice to say, this season’s judging panel has certainly not proven the most popular group to grace American Idol. Nicki Minaj in particular has been a polarizing figure, but viewers are also feeling rather ambivalent about the three other judges. In the midst of all this criticism aimed at the current panel, we have to wonder: will the show be looking for replacements for the next season?
The speculation is already in full force and has only been aided along by rumors of a possible judging spot for frequent Idol mentor Harry Connick Jr. The musician showed up once again on the reality competition, this time helping out the final four ladies. Unlike many of the judges and mentors featured on the show in past (and perhaps current) seasons, Harry Connick Jr. was actually incredibly helpful, providing the contestants with feedback that was both useful and humorous. The result was an excellent round of performances, and, while it can be argued that the finalists were amazing singers to begin with, receiving such valuable advice from one of the industry’s finest can’t have hurt.
What did you think of Harry Connick Jr’s appearance on American Idol last night? Could the show possibly be courting him as a potential new judge? And if so, who would you like him to replace? Feel free to share your opinion in the comments section below!
