X Factor guest judge, Justin Bieber can’t seem to stay out of the news. Lately, we’ve heard about everything from problems during his worldwide tour to hooking up with ex-girlfriend Selena Gomez. And just today, we learned the pop star was attacked on stage. So what could possibly be next? He’s being sued over his hit song, “Somebody To Love.” What’s up with that? Keep reading for more details.
According to The Washington Post, Bieber and several collaborators are being sued for ripping off Bieber’s hit song “Somebody To Love” from Devin Copeland and Mareio Overton, two men from Virginia who claim they wrote the song.
Copeland and Overton files a complaint filed in a Norfolk, VA federal court on Thursday alleging they wrote and recorded the song “Somebody To Love” in 2008. So how did it end up as one of Bieber’s greatest hits? Copeland and Overton said after writing and recording the song, they played it for a talent scout who they claim then passed the song on to R&B singer Usher.
Then sometime later, a similar song bearing the same name was performed by Usher and Bieber and eventually ended up on one of Bieber’s CD’s in 2010. And as a result, they are suing Bieber and several of his collaborators for copyright infringement and are seeking damages in the amount of $10 million.
What do you think? Did Usher and Bieber rip off Copeland and Overton? Or is this just another copyright lawsuit filed by two people looking to make a quick buck? We know you have an opinion and we want to hear it so sound off in the comments section and let us know.
