American Idol Recap: The Two Contestants Heading To The Finale Are…

May 09, 2013 05:58 PM by Lisa Princ

It’s the moment you have been waiting months to see! After last night’s top three sang and performed their hearts out on American Idol, it is finally time to find out who is heading into next week’s finale!

Going into tonight and knowing that it would be the big reveal of which two contestants were heading to the finale, we all knew right off the bat this would be the longest hour on television – ever!

First up was a performance by the top three of Who Says, and I am not sure what the heck was going on with their microphones, but I could barely hear their voices. Oh well, who really cares anyway, right?

Oh yippee, not only can we vote for who wins Idol, but we can also vote for the car they get to take home. Seriously? Can’t you just pick one, Ryan? I’ll try to spare you most of the boring details of the episode.

But first, we watched a performance by season 10 runner-up Lauren Alaina, as well as Alicia Keys. And of course, we had to sit through Mariah Carey’s latest music video, which boasts a scantily clad Carey – okay, I have to give her props, she does look great.

Then it was finally time to reveal the results! Oh wait, Jimmy Iovine threatens to quit the show if Candice does not make the finale – all with a smile. Sure, Jimmy, sure you will!

Looks like he won’t be going anywhere though as Candice Glover is the first contestant revealed to be going to the finale! Congrats to Candice!

Joining Candice in next week’s finale is…..Kree Harrison! Congrats to Kree! That also means that Angie Miller was sent packing.

Did America get it right? What do you think about the top two? We know you have an opinion, and we want to hear it! Sound off in the comments section below.

It was a setup from the get-go; sad stories overcome talent; they have this year set aside for a female black and no one else will win, period; Angie outclassed and out sang the other two and everyone knows it; Kree can’t win, this is for Candice; she won’t make it; you and I both know the teenagers and young crowd did not vote for her; glad Randy is leaving, they need some decent judges; AI is down and out after this episode; the Voice has them beat hands down@

America got it wrong. It should have been Candace and Angie. It probably would have been, but Kree snuck in after her sob story video, which had no place in a singing competition. She’s a terrible singer and the end result was a travesty. She is not even in the same league with Candace and Angie, and should have been voted off a long time ago. This show needs to be completely revamped if it’s ever going to survive. The judges wanted Amber to win, but when she got voted off, their attention went to Candace, who is a very good singer, but the cheerleading judges were sickening in promoting her. I would like to see no judges at all, as they are a complete distraction.

Candice Glover has all the talent in the whole completion. Everyone else was just a fill-in. I am tired of country singers winning everything. They all sound alike and that is very boring. Candice has a voice that is full of uniqueness. She is the only one worthy of the title.

I agree with #3,4 and 5 above. Ever since America put the two black girls in the bottom two, it has been interesting to see the judges on a crusade to promote them at the expense of the viewers (Having to listen to their rants, and name calling of those who might disagree with them?) Spare me. It’s about talent, not sad and poor Americans with a millions siblings, etc, etc, Neither of these girls represent what I’d want my daughter to aspire to. Not American idol material. They will go the way of Rubin and most of the other so called winners. Though it is interesting that they seem to title, “american idol” to the one in the top few who would be least likely to even make a record without having that title. I won’t watch anymore.

Angie is just what American Idol stands for. Classy, great looking, marketable and very easy on the eyes. She’s draw males and females to a concert.

candace was really really NOT that good. the judges so over promoted her it was like reverse racism…same as other above comment about amber. they over promoted her too. angie should’ve played the piano even a bit on the elton john song – her first song of her set. judges will all be fired anyways and for all that money they should pay simon cowell and get idol alums on and other guest judges to rotate early on during auditions. angie should’ve won…period. candace will be a poor non-seller.

Angie should be in the final 2. I don’t think she would win against Candie. This has been decided long ago. Get new judges for net year or I will not watch it. Angie is another Carrie Underwood and will go far.

I am so angry that Kree got through. SHe should hae been gone a while back. Angie plays piano, writes grest music an dwill be fine without winning, but it soucks. Idol dresses Candice too ole with all those big chunky neckkaces akk the time. It drives me crazy, but sh can really sing. Poor Angie…She should have been the winner vs the snooze Kree. When I saw Alicia Kees at the piano last night, I thought of Angie…She got sooooooooooooooo screwed!!

I said after Wednesday night that the finale was a set up. The producers (or whoever actually chose the third song selections for the three on Wednesday night,) gave realtively new mterial to Kree and Angie. That’s fine, and they handled it pretty well.

Then they turned around and gave Candace, (who needed no help) a 60 year old soft ball of a show tune that couldn’t have been teed up for her any better. And, she hit it like Tiger Woods to her credit.

Look, I said from 4 weeks ago that I could live with whomever won. But for the producers to take such a role by their song selection was imo, unfair. I am NOT saying that Candace and Kree don’t deserve to be there, but this song selection process smacked of blatant favoritism.
And it’s not the first time we’ve seen something like this. (See Taylor Hicks, Lee DeWyze, and a couple of others.) If the contestants are going to rise and fall on their song choices, let’s make sure those choices are, in fact, THEIRS.

The judging on this show has become a mess. With Randy announcing last night that he’s done after the finale next week, (he may have seen the handwriting on the wall,) the show needs to dump the two divas as well. Mariah Carey for all her talent, is very self absorbed, while Nikki Minaj, for all her idiosyncracies, seemed to me to have a better handle on the music business, but often made very little sense in her comments.

Best case scenario, they get Harry Connick, Jr. aboard, or possibly even, as one poster suggested, some other Idol “alums” to do the job. And for crying out loud, let’s stop with the “nice” judges. This is called a REALITY show, not fantasy. A dose of Simon Cowell would do a lot of these kids well, but we all know Simon ain’t walking through that door.

The judge panel was the first big American Idol mistake this year; Niki M. should have never been selected to the panel, how much practice or voice training is needed to rap? Further, she has taken the panel of past judges from classy to trashy. Second, doesn’t seem like AI sought out the best talent this year. Some of the contestants can sing, but most on the platform this year were mediocre so Candice and Kree appear to have strong voices. Well, in comparison to the competition they do, but what about once they win, will either be able to hold their own?…I don’t think so. The last idol is not doing too well either…Just a thought!

    (1)- Nicki Minaj go home!
(2)- Those judges should have thought again about sending Angie Miller home! Geez! Get your head straight, Randy and Jimmie!
(3)- Is it true that Randy Jackson won’t be on Idol next year?!
