Hell’s Kitchen guest star, David Beckham, 38, is ready to hang up his cleats. What’s up with that? After a 20-year career, he plans to retire from soccer at the end of this season. Keep reading for more details.
According to the New York Times, one of the most widely known athletes in the entire world, David Beckham announced his retirement from soccer on Thursday, May 16.
In January, Beckham signed a five-month deal at Paris St-Germain and as that deal nears an end, so does his career in soccer. He explains, “I’m thankful to PSG for giving me the opportunity to continue but I feel now is the right time to finish my career, playing at the highest level,” Beckham told the BBC.
He plans to finish out the season, which consists of two more games and then he will officially retire.
Looking back on his long career, Beckham described the experience as surreal and said he’s fortunate to have been able to realize his dreams. “If you had told me as a young boy I would have played for and won trophies with my boyhood club Manchester United, proudly captained and played for my country over 100 times and lined up for some of the biggest clubs in the world; I would have told you it was a fantasy.”
