Kirstie Alley Slams Abercrombie And Fitch Over CEO’s Remarks

May 16, 2013 06:28 AM by Lisa Princ

Kirstie Alley is not one to keep quiet when it comes to voicing her opinion. Alley, who has struggled for many years with her weight, does also not take kindly to those who bash plus size folks. So it should come as no surprise that the former Dancing With The Stars fan favorite is now slamming Abercrombie and Fitch, due to the CEO’s tasteless remarks. What did she say?

Note to Abercrombie and Fitch CEO, Mike Jeffries: Don’t pick on the “uncool” kids, because chances are many of your customers were likely “uncool” at one point or another, including many celebrities. One of those self proclaimed “uncool” kids, is none other than Kirstie Alley, who has struggled with her weight for years, and she is now slamming the store over Jeffries’ nasty remarks.

In case you missed it, Abercrombie and Fitch CEO Mike Jeffries admitted that his store does not deal with plus sized women, but instead they cater to “beautiful” people only. “In every school there are the cool and popular kids, and then there are the not-so-cool kids. Candidly, we go after the cool kids…A lot of people don’t belong in our clothes, and they can’t belong. Are we exclusionary? Absolutely,” was just one of Jeffries’ tasteless remarks in an interview that recently surfaced.

But those words have people all over the country angry and ready to boycott the chain. One in particular, Kirstie Alley took a stand with some slamming of her own! “Abercrombie clothes are for people who are cool and look a certain way and are beautiful and are thin..and blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. That would make me never buy anything from Abercrombie,” Alley recently told Entertainment Tonight. Alley also says that her two children, who happen to fit in Jeffries’ “bracket” will never, ever walk into one of his stores.

Ironically, if you have never seen Mike Jeffries, you need go google him now. He certainly does not look like a “cool kid” to us either – in fact, he is actually quite creepy.

Marketing – nothing more. Wonder what the dollar value for this level of exposure is. $100M? More? I remember AF when I was about 15 – which was 40 years ago. At the time, they were best described as high quality, high cost clothing that kind of had to be searched for to purchase. Exclusionary? Of course – exclusionary practices are what marketing is about. Jeffries did not get to be CEO by being publically ignorant or creepy. He tossed some advertising bait out there – and for the first time in my life, I am spending more than 10 seconds thinking about his product. bahhhh, bahh
And the pub sure didn’t hurt Kirsty – who I enjoy and admire. Just saying.
