Thursday night marked the much-anticipated season 12 finale of American Idol. And while Candice Glover’s win was the highlight of the show, the night ended amid rumors that Mariah Carey lip-synced during her performance. Keep reading for more details.
Mariah’s finale performance was prerecorded and included several of her greatest hits including “Vision of Love,” “Make it Happen,” “My All,” “Hero,” “We Belong Together,” and her brand new single, “Beautiful.”
As Mariah sang, the movement of her mouth didn’t always match up with the words we were hearing. And according to the Huffington Post, fans were not impressed with the pop legend’s performance and even speculated that she had lip-synched throughout the medley of songs. And they weren’t shy about voicing their opinions on the matter. “Mariah Carey lip-synched on a show where she judged people who are not allowed to lip-sync. So disappointing,” one fan tweeted. And another added, “After the finale performance on “Idol,” wondering why as judge, Mariah Carey hadn’t advised contestants [to] prerecord songs and just lip-sync.”
But did she really lip-sync? While we can’t be certain, Mariah’s rep spoke out against the rumors saying that the pop diva did not lip-sync and absolutely sang throughout the entire medley of songs. And not only that, Mariah even sang additional hits that didn’t make it on the show.
What do you think? Did Mariah lip-sync during her finale performance? Or are people just being overly critical of her performance? We know you have an opinion and we want to hear it so sound off in the comments section below and tell us all about it.
