When a tornado wreaked havoc on the town of Moore, Oklahoma last week, folks were devastated as the massive storm caused death and destruction, including claiming the lives of 10 children. While many stars have come out to show their support, the storm hit close to home for American Idol alum, Carrie Underwood, who grew up in Oklahoma. And in typical Carrie Underwood fashion, the singer announced that she is donating $1 million to help out!
Growing up in Checotah, Oklahoma, Carrie Underwood can’t help but feel devastated by the destruction the recent tornado caused to her home state. And as if we needed another reason to love the Country singer, she recently announced that she is donating $1 million from her Blown Away Tour to The American Red Cross Oklahoma Relief Fund.
“I have watched the devastation in my home state of Oklahoma over the past several days with great sadness. With the help of my fans who attended my concerts over the past year, we can offer the Red Cross a little extra help in comforting those affected by the recent tornadoes,” Underwood told The Associated Press recently.
The Red Cross is working hard to help the victims of the tornado, and they are thrilled that Carrie Underwood is helping them financially. “The impact of the tornadoes in Oklahoma and the Midwest was devastating and the road to recovery will be long for many families. Through the generosity of Carrie, the American Red Cross can quickly respond with shelter, food and comfort now, and with lasting help as they move toward recovery,” A Red Cross rep explained.
Kudos to Carrie Underwood for making such a generous donation to help out!
