Jay Z Is Under Investigation By The NFL

May 26, 2013 01:46 PM by Donna W. Martin

Last month, we learned that Jay-Z, husband of American Idol guest star, Beyonce Knowles was planning to sell his one-percent ownership share of the Nets so he could pursue becoming a sports agent. And now, less than a month into his new business venture, he’s under investigation by the NFL! What’s going on? You’ll have to take the jump to find out!

Jay-Z’s original plan for his new company, Roc Nation Sports Agency, was to let agents within the company take care of the day-to-day business and to negotiate contracts with the athletes. But according to the Inquisitr, Jay-Z may have gotten a little too close to one of the deals, specifically New York Jets player Geno Smith, and is now under investigation by the NFL. What’s up with that?

“The NFL says that only NFLPA-certified agents may be involved in recruiting new clients.” However, Jay-Z does not hold that designation and therefore, cannot be involved in the recruiting process.

So did Jay-Z recruit Smith or did one of the agents within Roc Nation Sports Agency recruit the NFL star? According to the contract, Smith signed with Roc Nation agent, Kim Miale. However, evidence obtained by the NFL suggests that Jay-Z had direct involvement in the deal.

So what evidence does the NFL have? An Instagram photo of Jay-Z and Geno taken prior to the announcement that Geno had signed with Roc Nation and a statement made by Smith’s advisor, John Thornton saying that he sat in on meetings between Jay-Z and Smith.

As part of the investigation, the NFL Player’s Association has sent inquiries to Miale and Roc Nation in an effort to obtain additional information about Jay-Z’s involvement in the signing of Smith.

What do you think of Jay-Z being under investigation by the NFL? We know you have an opinion so sound off in the comments section and let us know.

Well what can you say about this? That “J” was unaware of the rules and that he should have thought about his impact on being involved with being in that room @ that time. But at the end of the day “J” not knowing the rules is not a free pass “J” will overcome anyway that’s what he does.
Ok now lets move on over to the next big thing . that’s how “J” thinks anyway.

I am sad at how low celebrities can really be. Ask some Boys from The Backstreet, they’ll show you. Jay-Z acted inapproiately in the deal. Sort of like Wal-Mart kicking out long time Backstreet Boys fans by using less than legal contracts on their associates so they could have hotter and more college intellectuals to brag about being with.

Rules? You mean Jay Z has to abide by rules? Did he abide by the rules with his little 10 yr anniversary visit to Cuba? Let them east cake says Jay Z. The rules just don’t apply to me…

I personally feel like he is greedy, money hungry, and feel like the laws of America don’t apply to him. He needs to realize that just because you have money doesn’t mean you can do as you please there are rules and regulations and he should be made to follow them not buy his way out.

To Harold, you must not have been watching the news? I’m quite sure you must have an hearing problem? Jay-Z and Beyoncé were given permission to travel to Cuba. You let this media brainwash you and of course they are going to take bits and pieces and string it along. He didn’t break any rules by going over to Cuba. That’s what’s wrong with the world today people are always in somebody else’s business and they never get a story right. That man is grown he don’t own you or anybody else any explanation! I suggest you get your life….#Rocnation

With Jay Z being new to the sports agency world, there is a learning curve that he will have to pick up on. Just because a picture was taken of them together, shows that a picture was taken of them together. There is no indication of any wrongdoing on Jay-Z’s part. He is not the agent that is representing Geno Smith, but his firm will be. Is there really a difference if Kim Miale were representing Geno or Drew Rosenhaus at this point. His agency is in its infancy and there is a lot more that goes into contract negotiations than a handshake saying hello.
