Robin Thicke Tops UK Charts With New Single

June 03, 2013 11:05 AM by Stephanie Gustafson

He may have earned a reputation as the most annoying judge on Duets, but Robin Thicke recently accomplished something even more noteworthy — success with his latest single. Dubbed Blurred Lines, this track is Robin’s first to earn the top spot on the British singles chart.

Kelly Clarkson is not the only Duets judge capable of reaching the top of the charts, as fellow reality show mentor Robin Thicke recently proved. Although he found the top spot on the UK charts elusive in the past, Robin has finally managed to break through with the highly-acclaimed single Blurred Lines.

Featuring the talents of such artists as T.I. and Pharrell Williams, Blurred Lines fascinated fans the moment it was released, selling an impressive 190,000 copies in its very first week. These surprising numbers also land Robin Thicke with the distinction of having the fastest selling track of 2013. Critics have pointed to the single’s success as the result of an adept sampling of the Marvin Gaye classic Got To Give It Up, as well as an expertly-designed PR tour that included performances on The Voice and Ellen.

Obviously, Robin was pretty darn excited to snag the top spot on the British singles chart, as he acknowledge in a recent statement. “It is an honor and a pleasure to be number one in the UK. It’s something I’ve always dreamed of.” He also made a point of thanking his fans via social media, tweeting, “#BlurredLines just hit #1 on @iTunesMusic!! Thank YOU for all of the support!”
