If you thought Miley Cyrus was taking a big risk by cutting off all her hair, you haven’t seen anything yet. The former Disney star and Punk’d victim recently announce the release of brand new single We Can’t Stop — and it’s already clear that this is going to be a controversial track.
It’s hard to know what is happening with Miley Cyrus these days, given the all the relationship drama and changes in personal style. But we do know one thing — Miley’s latest single is no Party In The USA! Whether it’s part of the effort to shed her sweet and wholesome Disney image or, as she insists, part of showing the world who she really is, Miley has definitely managed to insert some rather controversial content into her work.
Fans (or in many cases, parents of fans) have noticed the huge change in Miley’s music, heatedly voicing their thoughts via social media. Particularly bothersome for many is a portion of the lyrics that has been interpreted as “dancing with Molly,” a supposed reference to an illicit drug. Of course, this could just as easily be “dancing with Miley,” but we won’t know for sure until an official lyrics sheet is released.
Similarly, the lyrics appear to describe a crazy party in which guests are in line for the bathroom and “trying to get a line in the bathroom.” In this case, the words themselves aren’t as highly disputed, but the context can still be interpreted as a reference to illegal drugs.
If the lyrics are, in fact, referencing drug use, then it appears Miley has taken on the bad girl vibe even more than we had initially suspected. After all, as Miley recently explained to Ryan Seacrest, everything in her upcoming album has been inspired by her day-to-day life. “This is a song that says where I’m at in my life right now…It’s a story of what I’ve been going through the past two years.”
