Following complaints related to Miranda Lambert’s victory at the ACM Awards, Carrie Underwood fans will be glad to learn that their favorite singer emerged victorious at this year’s CMT Awards. But even more impressive than the American Idol alum’s win was her touching performance in honor of the Oklahoma tornado victims.
Carrie Underwood may have won the big prize at the CMT Awards, but, modest as ever, she kept her focus on the victims of the recent Moore, Oklahoma tornado. Shaken by the tragedy, Carrie decided to sing her recently released single See You Again in honor of those impacted by the storm. Following the performance, she reflected on the Moore tornado backstage, explaining, “ actually have family that lives in Moore and was in the thick of it. They managed to walk away with cuts and bruises, and that was about that. But, I mean, there’s so many people who are going to have to be putting their lives together.”
Although she’s glad to see all the current support for the Oklahoma victims, Carrie worries that, in the weeks and months to come, these individuals and families will be forgotten. She hopes that her performance will inspire others to help out the impacted by the disaster in any way they can.
As if her touching performance wasn’t already enough, Carrie Underwood amped up the support by donating $1 million from her recent tour to the Oklahoma disaster relief effort. Just another reason to admire this amazing singer!
