June 10, 2013 07:23 AM by Lisa Princ

She already has an Emmy Award and a Grammy Award, and last night, Cyndi Lauper added a Tony Award to her collection. In fact, the Celebrity Apprentice alum won big last night at the Tony Awards as she took home the best original score award for Kinky Boots.

Cyndi Lauper can now add a Tony Award to her collection of awards that the pop icon has taken home over the years. Lauper took home the award for best original score for Kinky Boots, a story about a struggling shoe factory that turns things around by making drag queen boots. The book, written by Harvey Fierstein, is based on a true story, and Cyndi Lauper wrote all of the music and lyrics for the Broadway production.

So, how did it feel for Lauper to take home a Tony Award? The 59-year-old fought back the tears as she accepted the award, thanking her mother for introducing her to Broadway, as well as her husband and son for their support. But her biggest thanks went to Harvey Fierstein, as Lauper gushed: “I want to thank Harvey Fierstein for calling me up. I’m so glad I was done with the dishes and answered the phone.”

Cyndi also praised the theater community for allowing her to be herself and pushing hard work, because she is certainly not afraid of working hard – don’t let her colorful hair fool you!
