Neil Patrick Harris is no stranger to the Tony Awards, having hosted the ceremony four times. And last night, the former So You Think You Can Dance guest judge proved just why the head honchos at the Tonys keep asking him back. What did viewers think of Neil’s performance?
The Tony Awards continue to be among the most popular of the annual awards ceremonies, with last night’s broadcast having garnered over seven million viewers. This enduring popularity may be, in part, a result of Neil Patrick Harris’ continued presence — the actor has been a part of the ceremony for four years now. And NPH certainly did not fail to impress at his fourth Tony Awards, opening with a jab at Shia LeBouf and an ode to both Radio City Music Hall and the Broadway hits of 2013. Accompanying Neil was a whole host of singers and dancers sporting crazy and colorful costumes. And if all that wasn’t enough, Mike Tyson arrive on stage to show off his sweet dance moves.
The audience clearly approved of Neil’s opening act, awarding their beloved host with a standing ovation. And in the aftermath of the show, it appears the critics agree, with the Los Angeles Times suggesting that CBS write Neil a lifetime contract, stat! The Twitterverse has also been highly enthusiastic, with such stars as Jimmy Fallon congratulating Neil for “knockout performance hosting the Tonys.” NPH also made a point of logging into the social media world once the show was over, tweeting, “Last night made me love theatre and revere the amazing and tireless performers working so hard each night. ‘Twas a great time.”
