Earlier this year, we learned that Nadya Suleman, a.k.a. Octomom was under investigation for possibly defrauding the welfare system. And while we haven’t heard anything new in the case since March, the investigation is still underway. What are the next steps in the case? Take the jump for details.
According to TMZ, fraud investigators are moving forward in their attempts to prove that Octomom did indeed defraud the welfare system. So what’s next? Steps have been taken to seize Octomom’s bank records and other financial documents that may in fact prove she’s been stealing from the system.
Octomom has 14 children who are eligible to receive welfare benefits as long as she doesn’t earn more than $119,000 in a calendar year. So what prompted the investigation in the first place? Investigators were tipped off after Octomom grossed a whopping $200,000 in 2012 from her porn endeavors. And get this; she was milking the welfare system at the same time – well beyond her earnings cap of $119,000.
A warrant obtained by fraud investigators gives them the right to search the home and office of Octomom’s manager, where they hope to find financial records that will blow the lid off the investigation and prove whether fraud was actually committed.
If investigators find that Octomom did indeed defraud the welfare system, she can be prosecuted. And if convicted, she could face some serious jail time – as much as 3 years.
Do you think Octomom defrauded the welfare system? And if so, do you think she should go to jail for it? Or should she just be made to pay the money back to welfare? And what will happen to her children if she goes to jail? We know you have an opinion and we want to hear it so sound off in the comments and let us know.
