Is Miley Cyrus a stoner? Based on a recent interview with Rolling Stone (not to mention the controversial content of the new music video We Can’t Stop), the answer is a definite yes. How did the former American Idol guest justify her use of marijuana?
Ever since she was caught red-handed with what then was described as salvia, Miley Cyrus’ alleged drug habits have been the source of much speculation. While she was still in the midst of maintaining her Disney good girl persona, the star worked hard to distance herself from such rumors. But a drastic haircut and adoption of punk style has ushered in a new Miley — and one who isn’t afraid to talk about drugs.
Despite her recent allusions to marijuana in both her lyrics and multiple interviews, Miley is still a bit reluctant to just come out and say, “Yes, I smoke marijuana.” But she comes incredibly close to making such a confession in the latest issue of Rolling Stone. When asked about her smoking habits, Miley responded, “You can’t ask someone that and expect them to say yes. I did a song with Snoop Dogg called Ashtrays and Heartbreak, so people can put it together for themselves.”
Miley went on to explain her thoughts on marijuana and why she feels that her decision to smoke should not elicit such controversy. “I think alcohol is way more dangerous than marijuana…I’ve seen a lot of people spiral down with alcohol, but I’ve never seen that happen with weed.”
And just in case these justifications aren’t enough for the critics, Miley adds that, for her at least, smoking marijuana is perfectly legal. “It’s legal in the state of California, so I’m happy to live in California, a place where you can be whoever you want to be.”
Of course, Miley neglects to mention the fact that marijuana is only legal in California with a prescription. But then again, We Can’t Stop really wouldn’t have the same feel if it’s focus was on using medical marijuana to ease glaucoma or Alzheimer’s symptoms.
