Following disappointing sales figures for his last album, Robin Thicke vowed to take a more ‘feel-good’ approach with new single Blurred Lines. And it looks like that strategy has worked well, for the Duets judge finds himself once again topping the charts in the UK!
Robin Thicke‘s startling success continues again this week, with another appearance on the very top of the United Kingdom’s pop charts. With sales of 718,000, the single has already shot up to become the UK’s second best selling track of 2013. Despite some controversy for its lyrics and racy music video, the song has also captured a fair amount of attention the United States and all around the world.
Nobody expected Robin Thicke to break out of his slump with such a successful track, but least of all…Robin Thicke himself! The singer admitted in a Yahoo! Cover Media report, “The craziest thing is, [Blurred Lines] keeps growing on the iTunes charts. I was told it’s gone number one in 52 countries.”
Also wary prior to Blurred Lines’ release was Robin’s record company, which apparently viewed the track as a bit too out there as compared to the singer’s earlier singles. “They had always believed in me but they liked my other music and they didn’t know if it would be a hit…they didn’t quite get it. It’s so different, where is it gonna play?”
What do you think of Robin Thicke‘s Blurred Lines? Is it, as some critics claim, the ultimate summer song of 2013? Or do you feel that the hype is undeserved? Feel free to share your opinion in the comments section below!
